RE: Tony Skole
I don't know all of the details with his contract or how much they think it will cost to hire a replacement. If money is not an issue, I don't understand why you keep Skole with anything short of a conference tournament championship.

How many times does he get to throw his assistants under the dang bus before they realize the common thread of mediocrity rests with ol' number 7?

I'm not saying he shouldn't be let go - it depends on how being a "Tier 2" sport changes the parameters for success (if at all) and aggressiveness with personnel. The hitters are among the best in the country while the pitchers are among the worst. What the pitching staff has done much of the year has cost ETSU a lot of games. Skole absolutely deserves flak for hiring a pitching coach from freaking Milligan in the first place, but that doesn't excuse Gordon's work or mean we should ditch Skole and keep Gordon.

Moment of truth tomorrow morning against the Citadel.

Does anyone know the details (years, compensation, etc?) of Coach Skole's contract? I can't find that info anywhere

Apparently based on his performance it's an unlimited deal.

Before you throw all coaches under the bus who might come from a place like "freaking Milligan" remember there are excellent coaches all over. Not saying that Caoch Gordan is or isn't the greatest of all time as I personally do not know the man or his coaching methods but I do know this, there is a very good chance that the next Head baseball coach hired at ETSU may indeed have a background that includes coaching at Milligan College. This is a fact.

Del Harris "came from" Milligan. I don't think he ever coached there, and that's hoops, not hardball, but still.....

RE: Tony Skole
Milligan has produced some quality alums, even the occasional legendary spin master/baby oil on the bald head genius. A great coach can come from a small school, I think Lipscomb and Don Meyer taught us that.
Ol' boy at Tusculum has had them rocking it in baseball for years, and I mentioned before if/when Skole gets his walking papers if I were Sander I'd at least pick up the phone and have a conversation with the man.
Elimination game at 3:30 today against Samford.

Well, that was before the split in the JC School System, so it would have to have been either what became "North Junior High" (back then just "Junior High"), or at UH, and I'm pretty sure UH never called part of their years "junior high", altho a wiki article could term some version of what he did as that.
That's something I probably should know but don't.

RE: Tony Skole
King Springs. Never knew that was a junior high. Not sure how that worked; could it have still been in the county back in the '50s???

Del Harris and his King Springs powerhouse

So there ya have it.....

[P.S. - for those youngsters out there, King Springs was on King Springs Rd., and last I noticed, the old building was still standing. It's very close to what's the "new" Mountain View elementary school, which was built to replace the old King Springs school, which was always, in my memory, an elementary school.]

A little more.....

He was coaching 8th graders, at King Springs, which I don't think was a junior high school - they likely just had grades 1-8 there. That all makes more sense now.

more about the King Springs juggernaut

Thanks for the info. Harris had to do all the dirty work in LA before Jackson came in.

Well we gave up a 11-4 lead to end our season. Skole has to go. I don't understand any argument to keep him

Would assume so but he has only been used sparingly this year and was not one of the four pitchers that coughed up the seven run lead.

Hey meant MurBar.. the dad.. not the son who is actually on the team. Daddy B was famous for blowing big leads late.

I don't see how Skole stays after that loss. If he weren't already on the hot seat, he might be able to survive something like that, but he really needed to make it to Saturday to stick around. To not only fail to achieve that but do so in such spectacular fashion tells me we'll be looking for a new baseball coach this summer.
