Well the arm chair quarterbacks may not like him, but a ton of analyst do. The Panthers go a ton of A to A- grades for the pick. I haven't found any under a B+.

Yeah I saw people on Twitter saying Carolina was stupid to take a DT from Louisiana Tech when there were two from Alabama available. Apparently wearing that crimson helmet means they're gonna be an automatic Pro Bowler.

There was some of that when the Patriots chose Jamie Collins a few years ago. Time will tell the story. Collins has made his detractors eat their words. Hopefully, Butler will do the same.

I'm pretty happy with this pick. He has the type of size that Dave Gettleman likes, and he will give us a solid rotation on the defensive line.

Does he have any glaring weaknesses?

No not glaring. Some point to only 5 sacks but he did that while being double teamed especially this year. Didn't do well at combine. But big Vern doesn't quit and bested all those numbers at pro day. In fact when our linebackers and secondary had given up against Southern Miss, he was still pass rushing the QB and jumped on our defensive guys for giving up.

Strength: Big Vern made a lot of undersized Linebackers look good the last two years. He requires a lot of attention from the OL and he disrupts, disrupts disrupts.

Weakness: Not overly fast or over the top athletic but deceptively quick. Gonna have to see how he handles NFL Linemen.

Thats the spirit we need on our team. Thats the spirit that gives another 2012 Texas A&M. I hope the players come to realize this.

I like the pick.

Being a fan of a team coming off a 15-1 record with the #1 offense and a top 10 defense, I would have been happy with just about any pick though. Draft day is uneventful when you have a good team. Butler makes us better and is good insurance when we likely don't keep either Short or Starr. Almost a certainty that we don't keep both in 2 years, so might as well have a good replacement in place.
