RE: NTR - Ole Miss is having the worst night ever
Ole Miss's troubles are more proof of what I have always said. Cheating isn't worth the risk, no matter how clever you think you are. Goes double for UofM: we are more likely to be caught and the punishment is much more severe than for "autonomy 5" schools.

Quote:“I wouldn’t call it a hacker,” Farese said. “I would call it a coward. If somebody wants to expose something they believe is true, they should have the guys to attach their name to it.

“Why would one do that? Why would a person do that except there must be some huge animosity against him. I don’t know. I’m just not aware of people that are capable of such things. I haven’t been exposed to people like that. I’m exposed to people who commit murders and robberies. But, to me, people who do things like this are worse.”

So robbers and murderers are worse than hackers and people who cheat at big-time college athletics? Tells me everything I need to know about Steve Farese. That comment makes me sick to my stomach.

You can't really blame ol' Stevie. The robbers and murderers put food on his table. He's indebted to them.

We should just shut down the sports programs then.

RE: NTR - Ole Miss is having the worst night ever
College sports can turn even the best of us jaded. I truly think now, that if you want to play, you have to pay. It's less a competition of programs and more a competition of who can cheat better, and who can be the better politician with the ncaa.

It's a lot like government...if you can get enough political clout, you can get away with perjury or any capital crime really. If you're a big enough program with connections, you can have massive academic fraud and get away with it for your revenue sports (woe be into your women's softball team though).

The secret to NCAA sport success is to cheat well enough to get good enough, to get enough political clout to get away with most of it. Take a small or hit every decade and move on

I would start by denying he really admitted anything...along the lines of "scared kid...big spotlight...misunderstood the question...questioning wasn't clear to him...blah" backtrack, attack the reporter for leading him...etc

The more people that understand this the better. If you want integrity go buy season tickets to Rhodes or Sewanee.

We'll see - it might be VERY worth it. In fact, I can argue that it's been VERY worth it for numerous programs across basketball and football.

We'll see what the NCAA does to Ole Miss, but if it's just some recruiting restrictions, a couple lost scholarships, etc. then I think it was 110% worth it for Ole Miss. It put them on the map & the downside - if what i stated above is the case - isn't nearly bad enough to outweigh the upside of cheating.
