He didn't say anything about Thursdays.
Stop it. Message boards would wither on the vine if people started reading posts before reacting to them.
I read the post. I brought up Thursdays as a commentary on non-Saturday games. I didn't realize that was against the rules.

So, I guess I'll have to proceed with the topic of Friday by saying this: what other Friday game (besides the famous TCU win) had great attendance?
UAB games over 30,000 in attendance
1. Southern Miss (44,659) 9/4/2003 - Thursday
2. Miss. State (36,104) 9/23/2006 - Saturday
3. TCU (33,280) 10/15/2004 - Friday
4. Troy (32,818) 9/30/2006 - Saturday
5. Virginia Tech (31,897) - 10/24/1998 - Saturday.
6. Southern Miss (31,363) - 10/21/2005 - Friday
7. Kansas (30,543) - 9/26/1998 - Saturday
In looking up that information, I think the two keys in these highly attended games is not the day of the week, but three other factors.
1) Most of the games were on ESPN.
2) who the opponent was
3) we had a good team that was winning.
The fact that we would not be competing against Alabama or Auburns schedule outweighs conflicting with a high school game.
I missed the USM Friday game in my research, but I agree completely with your 3 points. A few of those games were in seasons where we had a bad record, but at the time of the game, we had hope for a good season. Most notably, we expected to have a great year in 2006 with a ton of seniors, so in September vs a beatable Miss. State team, we had a big crowd. It didn't hurt that State brought a ton of people too. We also showed well for Troy a week after the OT loss to State, and we beat Troy.

CUSA, ESPN negotiations become serious. ESPN might televise Thur & Fri games.
No problem with Thursday or Friday games especially if the trade off is getting games on national TV. The number of folks you might lose out on for high school games is probably no different (or even less) than the number of AU and UAT supporters you lose out on by playing on Saturday who might otherwise be interested in seeing a decent UAB team. The biggest factors in how successful you will be in attendance during the week is how well you're playing that year, who the opponent is, and where you are playing. Once we start playing near the BJCC I think that will help attendance by a few thousand just by that alone.

I think it's a LOT more likely to happen once we get the hell out of Legion Field! Perhaps we can even tap Miller Lite to do a Thirsty Thursday beer specials night at the New BJCC Arena in 2018!
That being said, I WOULD still attend a Thursday or Friday night game at Legion Field in 2017, Thirsty Thursday or no! And getting away from Alabama/Auburn's Saturday domination would be a HUGE plus!

As long as we never play on Wednesday again. Who else knows what I'm talking about?

Thursday night games also have the benefit that most of the housing students are still on campus.

That was a miserable game... and we were in our regular seats till the bitter end.

If there was a way to predict monsoon rain games months in advance, we would all be glad to have those dates avoided. I made the remark that that game was like a "stag party" because many parents (mainly moms) essentially said they would not allow the kids out in that weather on a school night so mom and the kids stayed home.
I sat with the dad of Marculius Elliott (RB #28) who complained at length that before the season, Coach Brown had promised him that his son would have a greater role in that season's offense, but then didn't do it.

Well. we were in Irondale looking at the radar, and it wasn't hard to predict the weather we were going to sit through. The game was on ESPN, and we could have stayed home and watched, which undoubtedly would have been the saner choice. I stopped at Walmart, bought two ponchos, and we toughed it out.
It ain't easy bleeding Green.

Then every game we played would be in a monsoon, blizzard or heatwaveofdeath, with the sunshine and bluebirds days reserved for the SEC.
