The omnipotent $EC got beaten by the other P5s. Great!

Apparently the DOJ was starting to investigate the ban

I'm glad it was overturned but watch out ODU. If Wilder was instrumental in getting this done, the ncaa could be coming around planting evidence.

I doubt the NCAA would do anything like this while the DOJ is watching.

I don't think Wilder was that instrumental in this getting oveturned. His was just one of many voices in the wilderness. What got this overruled was the heat from the DOJ. The NCAA and the P5 programs make the robber barrons look like grade schoolers.

I don't see why everyone is celebrating???

I don't want any P5 schools holding camps ANYWHERE near Southern Miss. Who actually supports letting a P5 school have a "satellite" camp anywhere near their school? Are you kidding me??? $%^& that!!!!!

Get over yourself, nobody cares about Hattiesburg. The largest city in Louisiana is a different story though. It is a lot cheaper to bring camps to the kids than the other way around, so it is the RIGHT THING TO DO.

TTT, its a big victory for TECH. We get to cover ground in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Shreveport and others places. Tech honestly had the most to lose with the ban because of our Rural location. We were able to recruit heavy in South LA with these traveling satellite camps. Even did one with SFA in East Tx not too long ago.

RE: NCAA Board of Directors Overturns ban of Satellite Camps
Okay, maybe I'm misunderstanding something:

I was under the impression that schools have always had the right to hold satellite camps anywhere within the STATE of the school. Is this not the case anymore? We (USM) held satellite camps all over MS (not at other universities though) a few years ago under Fedora. I'm okay with this scenario so long as they aren't being held at other school's campuses.

What I'm strongly against is schools being able to hold satellite camps OUTSIDE of their state and ESPECIALLY at other schools campuses. Again, &#@% that!

So a local kid that would otherwise commit to ODU...see's that Syracuse/UConn/Temple is having a "satellite" camp near/around ODU...he attends and really likes what he sees from the coaches and commits/signs/plays for them. How can you be in favor of something like that?

Yes thats one possibility. It could also happen the other way. Another possibility is a kid gets noticed and gets a scholarship that otherwise may have not have had a chance to. Someone succeeding in life and getting an opportunity they may not have had means more than rooting for a sports team.

No. The rule that got overturned was that coaches could only attend camps that THEIR school hosted and that could be no more then 50 miles from the school's main campus. That would work in Rhode Island but not in any state that isn't the size of a city.

Exactly. If a kid decides a school outside his local area is in his best interests that's a bad thing?

How can you be for the NCAA and its member institutions actively working to limit a kid's opportunities and exposure?

If a kid (a Syracuse/UConn/Temple-commit) lives in the ODU area there's a good chance are he's already familiar with ODU's coaches/program/facilities etc and probably already has offers/visits from ODU. With these other schools (Syracuse/Temple etc.) setting up their satellite camps near/around ODU, it's not going to help ODU. It's only going to benefit the other schools.

The risk/reward ratio is not good.
