It's the UMASS Faculty that oppose it. So basically, the people that generally oppose athletics at Universities oppose athletics at UMass.
More or less a non-story for me.

While I agree who is opposing it, that doesnt change the fact that things have gotten so bad that people within your own circle are calling for you to drop down. And while they might pull an Eastern Michigan and stand behind the athletics, still shows that things are not going to well for the Minutemen

I guess this will rule them out as being AAC candidate.

if UMass didn't keep the rest of their sports in the A10, they would still be in the MAC today.
This is their own fault.

Agreed. They've got a complete schedule for 2017 and are short one game for 2018. They've got seven games for 2019, and at least three every year after that until 2023. Unlike Idaho, which has a relatively small number of games they must get rid of, UMass would have to shed a ton of them to make a FCS movedown work.
Agreed with Blue Trombone. The faculty trying to eliminate/reduce a sport doesn't rise to the level of a ant's farts. They're in far better shape to make independence work than Idaho was.

Thanks guys, we also had a very good recruiting class, with no conference championship or bowl tie-ins.
Don't have the link that rates all FBS teams, but have this one from ESPN

Here's the link for the rankings. 2016 class is ranked 2nd in MAC and 80th nationally. Very solid. In comparison, ODU's 2016 class is ranked 104th nationally.

RE: Now UMASS Rumored to drop to FCS
I hope UMASS football makes it, but I will add that our experience with conference mate UAB shows us that the will of those with the power supercedes almost everything. UAB was established, recruited well, had future schedules set, etc., but none of that mattered. I realize it's not a great comparison, but it took a Herculean effort from UAB, and the Birmingham community to get it overturned. I hope UMASS isn't faced with a similar situation.

UMass Senate Facility Meeting started 40 minutes ago.
Hear is Dan Malone twitter account for the Springfield Republican.
A big showing for support.

From the Northampton Gazzette Matt Vautour tweeter account.

Can wait to see the news story latter.

RE: Now UMASS Rumored to drop to FCS
The motion against FBS Football was defeated by a vote 26 to 14.
Interesting things in the chancellors letter to the Senate Faculity.
All home games in 2017 will be on campus and appears the TV and media rights are in advance stages.
