It can certainly be tricky at that time. Maybe the recruits don't care as long as he still has 2-3 years on the contract. They may dream of 1+done, but other coaches will definitely use it against you. Trick is to negotiate the school buyout at a reduced level. Tubby is more open to it after being here a few years.
In all likelihood, he is successful here. Gets us to a S16 by year 3. Gets extended and is here until he's ready to ride off into the sunset. Then he leaves on his terms with no buyout for anyone.
