OT - Forty years ago today: Rick Monday's dramatic save at Dodger Stadium
I was just a kid when this happened, but I remember it: it was a weekend afternoon game between the Cubs and the Dodgers, and I was watching on TV at home. At one point a couple of guys from the stands went out into the outfield and tried to set an American flag on fire. Cubs center fielder Rick Monday saw what they were up to, ran over and snatched up the flag, then carried it to safety. It all happened so quickly that I didn't really understand what was going on until they replayed it. But it was cool!

Today, on the 40th anniversary of the event, MLB has a little recap:

Monday saving flag resonates 40 years later
Former outfielder prevented protesters from burning Old Glory in 1976

"I've been to too many veterans' hospitals and seen too many broken bodies of guys who tried to protect it."
