RE: Depth Chart Updated
If he cannot play this year, I bet he would qualify for a sixth year of eligibility --assuming of course he can even physically play at all.

Oh man, if only you knew him. It's going to take a heck of lot more than what that kid has already been through to make him call it quits. He's actively getting back into game shape and I cannot wait to see him back on the field. One of my all time favorite players to watch in high school, so much passion for the game and his team.
Hoping for the best.

I agree that The QB spot is the key... need to be able to pass the ball so we can run it. It was great having a threat back there last year.
We had a threat at QB in 2014 too. Stat comparison from 2014-15:
Code:
Stat Woodside Ely
Year 2014 2015
Rating 142.5 131.8
% Comp 62.5 56.1
Yd/Att 7.6 7.4
Yd/Comp 12.2 13.1
% TD 6.4 4.7
% INT 2.5 2.7
So, statistically, Woodside had equivalent or better year in 14 than Ely in 15. Add in that Ely was a 5th year senior and Woodside a true sophomore who was injured much of the end of the season, and I have every reason to think the QB position is in great hands the next 2 years.

That would be Chris Norwood....
I think he is still rehabbing from the new injury. So he would show up on the active depth charge yet. (if I'm wrong, someone please correct me.)
Yep. But he's been posting on instagram about working out with the intention of seeing the field this season.

I have complete confidence that whoever rises to the top of the depth chart will be a winner. The optimist in me thinks Woodside in '14 is the baseline of what to expect and he had great success then. You'd think sitting and learning the nuance of the offense and hitting the weight room last season will pay dividends. Obviously we can't count Julian or Guidagni out either.

Ely threw routes that Woodside never did. Remember woodside's arm is weak and there were no long balls or outs. He did run better than Ely. I hope he has strengthen his arm...a year of maturity may help.

We were watching Woodside when he was 18-19 years old. Now he will be 21-22 years old. A little bit of physical maturity happens. Plus a full year to learn more of the offensive system.

This is what I was thinking, too. But, if we end up going back to more of a dink and dunk type offense, that doesn't mean we can't have success. I know...we all prefer seeing the ball thrown downfield, but whatever gets us to the endzone. The downside is the clock. When the receivers caught the ball Ely gave us the ability to strike quickly. A dink and dunk offense tends to eat more clock.
Woodside made great strides year over year, and he has an experienced QB coach now. I'm thinking we'll be pleasantly surprised come September. I'm more concerned about the receivers than I am Woodside.

The receivers do have to step-up!!! I agree.
The D Line, secondary, special teams, and WR's will dictate the success of UT in 2016. We will score points.

I like his leadership abilities, moxie, i think he is more vocal than QBs in the past... as a player you want to know what your leaders are thinking, want them to speak up, probably as important as what the coach may say.

Yes. He showed leadership from the first time he stepped on the field. I'm not sure the followership was there at the time, but the leadership definitely was.

Last year's defense was excellent in no small part because of its ability to maintain a fresh D-line in the game at all times without any real drop off. I think that the real pre-season question about the D-line this year is about depth.
The guys you mention will be fine---Moore and Stepic were backups last year and proved themselves as did Hester. The question is whether the backups this year will also be able to do so because if they can this will have the potential to be an exceptionally good year.
The only exception was the NIU game; poorly managed game with respect to keeping fresh DL bodies in the game

Thanks for the stats. No reason Woodside won't be a very good QB.
