They have set themselves up for a massive amount of crow.
Talent is there to win at least as many as last year. Marshall came along in last part of season and showed a lot of promise. If Orlando is all he is made out to be he should at least win 19 games. Only issue is can he put up with the same meddling with the players from local area coaches and player posse'.
Many are down playing the season so they can blame someone if things do not go well.

With Dedric we will win 20 games. Without him we'd struggle to be .500. Pastner nuked the program

I was pleasantly surprised at Nick Marshall's progress last season. Seems like I heard he's got a knee or back problem. Hope that doesn't slow him down.

RE: Might be wise to temper the enthusiasm for a couple years
We'll have a fair amount of talent on the roster next season, just not a lot of experience.
Solid guard pool with Markel, Randall, Martin and Craft (if he returns). No real PG there, so it would be nice to snag a JuCo or grad transfer that can run the point.
Dedric and a healthy KJ will have to be workhorses at the 3 and 4. Marshall will have to really work hard to get in shape to make any sort of impact at the 5. We're bringing in Rivers, but I'm not sure if he will have any impact. We need 2 more bodies in the front court.
Getting three more guys would put us in a position to finish in the top half of the league, which would give us a winning record.

I say we are close to winning the conference and make it to the NCAA. All this team needs is confidence and team chemistry (and good coaching of course).

Agree.
But I would add a strong late recruiting class.
As I've demonstrated before - Chris Beard at UALR walked in and signed TEN new players and went 30-5 and won the SunBelt and a game in the Dance.
Louisville's top two scorers from a top 10 team were both late period grad transfers - from Drexel and Cleveland State.
This team needs 2-3 guys with DI experience who can play a role.
We're not in the ACC or B12 - the gauntlet is Tulane and East Carolina and whatever fluff is in the OOC schedule.
Freaking Tulsa made the tournament last year.

Good grief, all the guy has to do is win three or four more games that JP did and the program is back in the tournament. I expect Tubby can do that.

Agree.
There is a small yet vocal group that likes to lower the expectation bar before each season. They lower it to the point that the world limbo champion would break out in sweats.

The real question is will we put CBU back on the schedule?

Pastner did not nuke the program. There are too many top 60 players still on the roster. Pastner could recruit, he couldn't coach. The team is thin, injuries will be a problem.

Late period just started.
Plenty of time to add depth.

It's going to be like going from Porter to fuente in Football, remember how much better we looked in the FIRST year once Fuente took over?
It's going to be very similar here too.

Give 'em a break. They haven't seen a coach in seven years -- they've forgotten what a difference it makes.

Might be wise to temper the enthusiasm for a couple years
I expect that our guys will improve enough at fundamentals to compete. I had very little confidence that PASTner was able to teach or motivate our team. I could see that his in-game decisions were pretty bad. I could not have done better, but I feel pretty certain that Coach Smith will do a lot better.
I think some folks will be surprised how much better the Tigers will be next season.
