As opposed to putting your own son on staff who was a video coordinator last year? If Saul was such a good asst coach or recruiter, he would have had a real job not with Daddy

I'm fine with the HC making his own staff, but less fine that this level of drama happened in public and over promoting a video coordinator to full assistant.

Saul could have been DBO and left Keelon in the 3rd chair if this was what this was about.

That was a short honeymoon.

So can this whole thing go away now? Maybe Memphis Sports Radio can talk about something else now...

it's not going away until Dedric pulls himself out of the draft, and returns to Memphis.

I guess you're right. That and a hour by hour update on whether they will get the waiver or not...

God help us if the waiver is denied. Then this cycle repeats for another week or so.

I just don't see how the NCAA grants a waiver.

Memphis is essentially arguing that if they cant put Lawson in a support position that Lawson and his kids will go somewhere else. Which is kind of counter to the entire point of the rule.

My God people, get off the &$@?%#£ ledge...For the love of Pete, let Tubby do his ******* job!!!!

Can I remind everyone that Josh is no longer here and now Tubby Smith is the head coach. THE most accomplished coach the university has ever hired. Ever. Can you please simply freaking relax!

Unreal.

I don't see how they deny it. Lawson was hired by a coach that willingly accepted another assignment and did not offer Lawson a spot on staff. The fact that the new Memphis coach offers a former regimes AC a demoted job is goodwill.

This is a perfect case for a waiver. Tubbs did not hire him in the first place but is allowing him to stay on. From the NCAA viewpoint, the coach that hired Lawson saw it as a failed experiment and bailed

Hey, it's been a long time since we had a coach who wasn't a walking disaster when it came to dealing with controversy. Folks around here have been chewing their nails every time there's a coaching decision to be made for so long they've forgotten what it feels like to have adults in charge. They'll get over it -- most of 'em, anyway!
04-cheers

And I think that's very true. It's like a habit and I can't blame anyone from still being gun shy.

Seriously?
Tubby could have brought Saul as non-AC staff member . Keelon could have kept his AC role.

If the above scenario happens, we have no controversy or drama. We have a Lawson on staff and future Lawson players on the team. We are going thru all of this BS to promote Saul? Wtf? It makes no sense.
This first week has been rocky. There is no need to get on the ledge. There is no need to relax either.

Exactly.

People having been bashing Pastner for so long that they feel anything better than Pastner is good.

Not so. There are levels of bad and this is bad. Pastner bad? No but still bad.

All this was so Saul DWI Smith could be AC.

Tubby deserves some criticism for the way this was handled. He could have placed Saul anywhere for a year and this was all averted.

I just wish everybody wouldn't follow the media off the huge cliff they jump off at every opportunity. They make virtually every molehill the Memphis version of Mt. Everest.

Correct again 450. Wise words.

Except for the small fact that this had absolutely nothing to do with "putting his unqualified son on the staff". Taylor is Coach Smith's first choice anyway, but he's in the running for a head coaching position at the moment. Another minor fact that you appear to have overlooked, Saul has been an assistant coach for 9 seasons at Tennessee Tech (3) and at Minnesota (6).

OK. Then just don't hire Keelon.
