"It would be hard to overstate it," Aresco said of the importance of the next TV contract. "I consider it job one. All eyes are going to be on it. I'm not making any predictions, but I'm very confident our value is going to be recognized and maximized."

Not trolling but shouldn't he take a haircut once all the members left?

Aresco has done well to this point.
All of the moves have worked out well. Even your Tulane has hired good top quality coaching staffs (baseball, football, and basketball).
I think the vision at the top has sent the right message. INVESTMENT.
So, I think nitpicking over his salary is childish. After all, it's split 12 ways and we've got a lot more expensive athletic expenditures (which aren't near as important to the bottom line) than Aresco's salary (which is another investment).
Thanks to him we're in a position to build an audience, and increase our value. Few predicted that the AAC would have the relevance we've had across the board. We're so far ahead of the curve (after three years) the discussion is closer to raise than haircut.

The bahahaha might be better directed toward anyone thinking they are leaving anytime soon. Im starting to think we might all be here much longer than we originally thought. I still think the best opportunity to leave would be the Big12---but Im not as confident as I once was that they are going to make a move.

Me either. I could be happy if the AAC stuck together as is. I can see this group of schools hanging with the ACC in football in the years to come. Like everyone else, I want to see the tv $ go up. The Peach Bowl would be nice too....

My feeling on the current state of the Big 12 is explained by the following line from A Knights Tale....

Unless we go to open market and actually stick together, I think the chances for this are minimal.

All good points 04-cheers

Aresco needs to act quickly in convincing the tv networks how sexy this league really is... With all the facility improvements nearly everywhere in this (AAC) league and it's present big markets membership lineup, this league has power to fetch $$$8mil - $$$10mil per.

As far as results on the field/court... I'm quite content to this point. Now we just have to capitalize on it.

Yeah, this obviously did not happen. Aresco and others really thought the BE was going to get 17M per school.

"The best way for Aresco, 62, to do that is to help the Big East land a billion-dollar television contract that is at least in the ballpark of the ACC's recently re-worked deal with ESPN, which will pay its members about $17 million a year starting next season and through 2027."

Yeah---that aint happening. I believe we will do exactly what the MAC did. We will sign an early extension which reworks the final 2-3 years of the existing contract and adds about 5-6 more years out from the current end date. I think we see a small bump in the final few years of the existing contract and another nice bump in the extension years. I'd love for us to get 10 million a team---but I think realistically, its probably going to end up closer to 4-6 million a team. One thing I'd try to negotiate into the contract is a slot in the Texas Bowl (which ESPN owns) and a bump to 3-4 million for the Miami Bowl rights (which would be enough to get the Bowl included in the same bowl pool as the Liberty, Gator, and Music City Bowls. That would give the AAC 2 very solid post season destinations (one east and one west) for its top two teams.

Id also move to get the production capabilities of all AAC schools up to ESPN standards and get ESPN to agree to carry all the schools streams on ESPN3. That would be huge for non-revenue sports recruiting in the AAC.

He talked about expanding the autonomy umbrella in the audio.

Frankly, the conference has done everything it can to this point. Aresco has every right to be pleased so far.

Right now, it's all about building on the foundation of the first 3 years.

The AAC needs to win the Access game again and go a bit deeper into the tourney and we could see a nice little bump.
