Not true no one said that, but what makes you think Louisville will have a place if the ACC did implode? If the ACC did implode it would probably just lose the main teams in UNC/DUKE/UVA OR CLEMSON/GT/FSU either way the ACC will still be a power conference and more like the Old Big East nothing wrong with that.

I think Louisvile is one of the better programs right now and will not have a problem finding a home if the ACC did implode but they could also stay in the ACC and rebuild it. Doesn't matter cause the ACC is not going to implode.

As an ECU fan if I could choose any conference to be in it would be the SEC not the ACC. The only schools I would like to play in the ACC we do not play is Clemson.

Well, the SEC isn't happening either

If they came in like ND, then there wouldn't be any need for further expansion as the conference would be stable at 14 for football and 16 for basketball. (Being a baseball fan things would get odd w/ 15 teams, but baseball does not dictate conference membership.) If they came in for all sports, then as the ACC I'd press hard for ND to join as a full football member. If that was unsuccessful, I'd bring in a team like UCONN. I think this would make most ACC fans happy as the more football-oriented schools would get Texas and the more basketball-oriented schools would get UCONN.

More likely than not, I don't see much movement in the ACC for a while though, unless Texas did decide to leave the Big 12 and that's not much more than hypothetical. There have been lots of rumors about the Longhorns moving for the past couple years and nothing has changed, so I don't see much of a difference w/ this go around. One thing I am pretty darn certain about though is that the ACC is very stable for this period. 3-4 years ago things were a different story and there was a growing divide between the more "basketball-leaning schools" and the "football-leaning schools". FSU being one of the latter was seriously looking into B12 membership and the true extent of the SEC rumors will never be known. Ultimately, the ACC poaching Louisville as the replacement for Maryland was a huge coupe for the league. Louisville has a very dedicated and vibrant athletics department with a solid football program which really put the football-schools at ease. Most FSU fans are quite content with the league right now.

The possibility for Texas to "pull a Notre Dame" with the ACC is one of the more intriguing things with conference realignment. It could make a lot of sense, easing academic concerns Texas has, and feeding the Texas ego when it comes to football ("going independent" would certainly do that). Having the Texas football brand to rotate throughout the ACC like it does the Notre Dame brand would be pretty much a home run. Tapping into the one of the biggest states in the country would be phenomenal for the ACC as well.

Personally, I would hope that the Big XII would expand their conference and stabilize things. I think there are several schools that make sense, and would blossom in the Big XII. I love college football, and the more stable conferences the better, for me.

Can the Big XII reign in the ego's that are running amok in the league enough to get that done? Honestly, I hope so.

Well said...expand if possible by 2...UConn & Cincinnati and be done with it....we all know the Big XII would be more stable if they would have went TCU, WVU, Cincinnati & Louisville in 2012...missed opportunity.

Va Tech sued to get into the acc so I'm sure UVA would sue if they tried to leave if they didn't get an invite as well.

The Only conference Not up to a numbers snuff is the Big 12. At ten and holding tells You that even some of those Big Time programs want to keep it small & tidy to make a clean getaway if the right offers come Their way . More schools added just makes moving out much harder to accomplish when that time comes.

It would be messy with lawsuits if the big name programs do break away. What will happen to Big 12 when Kansas State, Iowa State, Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU, West Virginia and Oklahoma State lose the P5 status? Lawmakers will get involved since some schools are tied at the hip with the Big Brothers. To make a clean break? You need to keep the Big 12 as a P5 conference, and invite at least 4 more schools.

Only if the NCAA and Network committees want to keep it as P5 and not p4. If Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and say WVU left, there still would be a chance for the other 6 schools to wind up in other P4 conferences depending on where those first four schools landed. It also would depend how many AAC & MWC and Independents would be involved to make all P4 members an equal number per conference.
