conferences don't "build programs" programs build conferences period

The additional revenue will definately build any program into something much better than what the b12 can currently add. If they keep waiting the quality of potential additions will probably decrease yet again.

But, Boise State could be the next TCU in the conference. They are that competitive in football, and their basketball is on the rise. Then, the Big 12 would steal a PAC 12 wrestling affiliate from them to boot. Boise State was the PAC 12 wrestling champs a few years ago.

Big12's biggest challenge is gaining market size. I admire what Boise has done with their sports and they probably deserve a P5 invite, but I don't think it will happen because of market size. Just my .02.

It's called "investing". The Big 12 had better hold their nose and take the bad smelling "G5" medicine which will save them.

I still think the Big 12 looks east for schools to add. TV markets are driving the expansion bus.

Rather objective article from Memphis talking about Big 12 expansion.

One thing in there that I hadn't caught before-from a Feb. 16th interview:
"Oklahoma president David Boren, in an interview earlier this year with The Oklahoman, said there are "some good choices and I think a consensus is forming around these (unnamed) three or four.""

That's basically the only hope NIU has of leaving the MAC... the market expansion hype

I just found and read the original The Oklahoman article that is quoted. Boren says, "And I think a consensus is forming around these three REFORMS, so I'm in a personal mode of patience."

He was talking about: (1) Expansion; (2) a CCG; and (3) conference network.

He wasn't referring to consensus about specific schools. Poorly misquoted in the Commercial Appeal article.

I thought I heard him say "3 or 4" but thought it was kind of muddled (in the audio connected to the link). After reading what you wrote, I can see he did say "3 reforms."

You are absolutely correct. I also read that article in the Oklahoman

The Big 12 should go all in and jump to the "Big 16" already. Add UC, Temple, UConn, Memphis, USF and UCF to get to 16. Then keep Houston on speed dial for when Texas leaves. 04-cheers

:Or: They could just sit back and wait for the GOR to expire and go their separate ways. This is probably the course of action Texas prefers. 03-puke

Bingo, I do not see a Big12-2 without a LHN. UT or OU bolts either way and the Big12-2 is done. It will be interesting to see what the leftovers get as a contract, if there is on at all.

Big 12 football coaches will get hard data on how return of a football title game impacts CFP chances during conference meetings in Phoenix.

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said data from Navigate Research indicates a football title game improves playoff chances by 4-5 percent.

Phoenix meetings prelude to spring meetings in Irving with ADs and Big 12 board of directors. Major reports from consultants expected then.

Question for Big 12 on FB title game: does league want every advantage it can get or does 4-5 percent edge justify blowing up current model?

Bob Bowlsby isn't setting a timetable for the Big 12 but said: "I think we’ve got to get down the path and make decisions this summer."

The Big 12 has repeatedly made decisions. Status quo has been the decision ever since WVU entered.

Boren and Bowlsby want decisions to go the way they favor.
