This is a side affect from hiring a dad for his kids. Discord on the staff. You think they are happy when they see an unqualified coach elevated just because his kids are talented? They have more staff work to do, because Keelon is not capable. Did Keelon do any recruiting?

Wolken is a national college writer for USA Today. Probably not a lot of people outside of Memphis care whether the 3rd assistant is qualified or not, so not worthy or a story.

as I said, if I were to guess, Robert Kirby (now Assoc HC at LSU) is talking now that he's safe at LSU...but that's just a guess.

This is damage control.

Coach Smith probably did think that the status of a third assistant would get a week of full blown talk radio, and newspaper attention.

Now maybe he understands how crazy this job is going to be.

Ridiculous then if that's your point. Wolken is just reporting what he knows. You know, kind of like it's his job to do so. Wolken is pretty tied into the Memphis program still. He is just passing on what he heard, could care less about anyone's damage control.

And UofMemphis is right, Wolken's source is almost surely somebody who was around the program last year.

What is ridiculous is that Lawson is NOW being ridiculed for his "lack of being qualified" when that NEVER mattered before.

He was NEVER hired because of his resume, he was hired because he guaranteed high level recruits. If that is no longer satisfactory, then just let the man and his sons move on.

This should have been handled long before this became a segment for local talk radio.

These guys make their living attracting eyeballs, they made their rent this month. I'm guessing y'all's thank you card is already in the mail.

This argument holds water unless Tubby ends up hiring Saul as a full third assistant.

If we are trading Keelon for an established assistant and will try to keep Keelon on staff as support staff at a good wage, fine.

If we are dealing with this to get Saul, we should pin this conversation....
