Your anti-EMU rhetoric is getting old !! - Tough to be in the shadow of u of m. FWIW, if big school state was situated in proximity to UT where say Owens CC is, Rocket athletics would be an afterthought. Oh wait we already are, in some eyes (media, general population).

And that is a shame. As a student I would want my school to strive for excellence on and off the field.

I would guess that the number of students at non-Power 5 schools, who are interested in athletics, is quite small.

I didn't start this thread or even the story. There was a question posted on whether the student gov't represented the rest of the student population....so I happened to run into a source.

You ran into ONE person. And it's a story I'd suspect plays the same way at most colleges. I went to a P5 school with more than 30,000. Those stands weren't being filled by students. Not even Michigan's and OSU's are being filled by students.

actually by being a State of Michigan resident. I know and run into many EMU students and alums. I often joke with them that it's their turn to host the tailgate party every other year. (like this fall) But yet have I to find a willing host in Ypsi......

Can you in any way, shape of form fathom that we're saying the same thing? Yes, of course this is your experience because as I said MOST students don't, regardless the school. EMU's problem IMO is their inability or lack of effort to get the community involved. Most UT alums, by FAR most UT alums don't go to games or have interest in football games, would be my guess and that's not abnormal. Same any school. That's not what fills most college stadiums. Communities fill stadiums. Totally non-affiliated people, FILL stadiums. Not students. Not alums.
Might be an interesting survey for UTs athletic marketing dept, to get a balance of how many at the stadium attend or GRADUATED UT? How many accompany someone that attends or graduated UT? How many have only local community association.

There is discussion on the NIU board about cuts there of one male non revenue sport, cutting cheerleading and reducing reliance on subsidies for all sports. Thank goodness UT depends on subsidies the least of any MAC school and will be able to point that out if the spot light turns our way.
