RE: JMU COB Rankings
Some consultants will more than likely need to be paid before releasing anything, its the new JMU way.

RE: JMU COB Rankings
I noticed that the job for Dean of the CoB is being advertised. Made me curious because I didn't think Dr. McGowan had been at JMU very long (5 years). I don't know that I have close connections in that school, but I feel that I've heard mixed feelings about her tenure. I also didn't realize her transition is old news, but I feel like it never came up on the boards. Hoping JMU lands a big hire here to take the CoB through an exciting expansion, and brings some recognition to the program that many have a lot of pride for already.

Just anecdotal, but Dr Gowan has been excellent to work with as our company recruits the CoB. That is from the outside looking in. I have no idea how she was doing on internally focused priorities at the university.

I'm headed to a big trucking and logistics company...engage means nothing.

In business being "engaged" usually makes all the difference. You better be engaged with your customers, clients, market, competitor offerings, product/service, employees, etc. Unless you're the government (or apparently the JMU admin) you can't run a business without knowing the landscape and how to best navigate it.

As for the ranking I'd put more credence in things like employer perception, earnings, professional exam success (such as CPA), etc. It's great anytime JMU degrees are recognized and appreciated on a "national" level.

As a manager of a company who does Government IT work, over the past year we have had new hires from Tech, UVA, and JMU. I have to say the JMU grads were better prepared overall for doing the job. The kids hired are all smart but the JMU grads stood out. One of the software developers is way ahead of those with years of experience. My VP has said to look harder at the JMU grads for open positions.

RE: JMU COB Rankings
I've been very involved with the CoB over Dean Gowan's tenure. During that time I have enjoyed working with, and getting to know Dean Gowan. Overall, the CoB is better today than it was when she took over. There are a lot of great things happening throughout the school. As with anyone in a leadership role, there may be those that had issues with her. But, all in all, I think she did a very good job and I am grateful for her service to JMU during her time as Dean.

RE: JMU COB Rankings
My understanding is that Dean Gowan is stepping down to teach more, I think she'll lead some program within the COB. Looking forward to this building going up, it is going to be a great entrance way to the university and boost COB (and the university) big time!

They released them on the the JMU COB 2020 page.

I also echo what many have said about Dean Gowan. She did a lot of great things for the COB program and this effort for the new building she's lead has been remarkable. What's been most impressive is her ability to relate the needs of the COB to those working in the industry now as a way to help give back.

RE: JMU COB Rankings
JMU has done a great job maturing the business programs. We need a few of the other areas of study to develop doctoral programs to get us to the national classification. I think we're only 2 or 3 short. I know there's not a huge demand for doctoral degrees in business (though Darden has done a good job) but some of the other tracks can fill the gaps.

COB expansion about to take a front and center stage. Chandler demo in May and construction starting this summer. The JMU construction schedule is crazy over the next 2 years.

The new COB building looks really nice. The whole area should be very beautiful when done.

Question for anyone who knows. Since admissions moved out of Sonner Hall what is the building being used for these days?

Forgive me if I've missed something, but I don't ever recall seeing Showker with the windows at the top level. Is that part of the development?

The JMUB2020 announcement mentions renovations to Showker, which I assume will happen when the new building is done.
