I need your help spreading a message
I need the help of those who live in Memphis or still have contacts with business, government, higher education or nonprofits.
on Tuesday, April 26, I am launching Memphis College Signing Day in all Shelby County Schools. The idea comes from the First Lady's Reaching Higher initiative. The idea is for all high schools to create a celebration event recognizing college or career training choices with the same enthusiasm we give to athletes signing college scholarship letters of intent. What that looks like is up to the schools but an early event at Whitehaven was an elaborate, celebrity filled two-hour general assemble that gave special attention to 51 students who each received over $1,000,000 in scholarship offers.
What I am asking of the community is that everyone wear their college shirt or jersey, military or career path insignia apparel. The message is one of high expectations and community support for our future leaders.
Ask everyone you know to share the message, wear their college shirts and post to #SCSCollegeBound.
We are making progress even if there continues to be problems to address.

Great idea to draw attention to the values of college and university education.
Do folks from UTK get to wear theirs, too, or is this just for higher education types?

If a school was smart they would do it on the agreed date, then in a year or two they would 'jump the gun' and have it a week sooner to get all the publicity! 
Kudos to Whitehaven, they seem to be ahead of the curve on many fronts.

Yep, career apparel works so they can wear those orange vests and hold the trash pick up stick things.

This is the first year to do this so I'm not sure what to expect.
