1995 Bearcat Football Team
I've talked about this team a bunch in the past. It's a team I always thought was really unlucky to only finish 6-5. It's a team that was consistently competative, loaded on defense and a joy to watch. I firmly believe they were the best Bearcat team of the pre-Brian Kelly era (though Dantonio's last team was probably there by the end of the season as well). Sadly they lost to a top notch Kstate team on a 30 yard pass on the last play, lost a winable game over a top 15 caliber Kansas team, lost to really good Miami and Toledo teams and their one bad performance was a loss to Kentucky. They also beat top 15 caliber VT (shutout on the road) and very good ECU/Southern Miss teams. Fun season.

Bill Connolly over at SB nation is one of my favorite college football writers and he has been going back revisiting various seasons. He was talking about the Nebraska and Northwestern teams from that year, but he included his computer ranking based on the seasons results. Fascinatingly that 6-5 UC team was the 19th best team in the country according to his rankings. Much of their schedule was rated very highly as well (3 top 15, a few others between 20-45). Here is a link if you're interested.

Also...Brad Jackson was the man. and her are some other notables:

Robert Tate, Sam Garnes, Artrell Hawkins, Orlando Smith, Anthony Ladd

What about Sid Gillman's teams, or the 77' team? 95' .....remember Eric Vibberts throwing back to back to back interceptions at Miami of Oh. Awful.

Sorry... should have better qualified that like I meant to. Best Pre BK Bearcat team of my lifetime.

Gotcha, Murphy's 93' team was pretty good. Edit meant to say 76' Bearcats. 95' team had so much potential.

The KState game, Toledo (turnover festival) game, and Miami game always stick out for me.....for the 95' season.
Toledo had a RB that was really good, Rashean or Washean Tate? phuck that was 21 years ago.

RE: 1995 Bearcat Football Team
The Kansas/Kansas state games really stands out for me. Heartbreaking losses on back to back weekends. The only good thing is I took these losses by a friend's pool, drinking beer. It was still early enough in the season for the pool to be open.

As far as Murphy's 93 team, I am not sure how good they were. It was great to finally win some games, since the prior 5 years were a disaster, but I am not sure they beat anyone.

Probably my favorite Pre Big eAst team was Brad Jackson's senior season. I know that we got manhandled it the bowl game, but we had some serious players on that team. Hawkins, Jackson, Shavers etc..

I was a student in both 93 and 95. Both teams were similar defensively. Sam Garnes and Chris Hewitt were a force in the secondary both seasons. The biggest difference was the 93 had a string ground game led by Robert Small. Small rushed for over 1100 yards. Lance Harp was a better game manager than Vibberts as well.

Some of Miners teams had pretty good talent. Gino, Peek, Ruffin, Ladarus Vann, Blue Adams, McCluskey. I'm thinking the team that one the CUSA championship and the bowl game that year was best pre-Dan. The best pre-BK has to be Dantonio's last season with Mauk.

These are all teams in my lifetime (basically since the 90's). I can't speak for any of Sid Gillman or Greg Cook teams.

Mauk played for BK in 2007- that team went 10-3 and was very good. You might be thinking of Dantonio's 2006 team which was led by Nick Davila. They were 8-5 and had that huge win over Rutgers who wAs undefeated and #7 in the country at that time.

There was a lot of talent in the Minter years. IIRC we had six guys get drafted to the NFL in 1997 (a lot of those players were actually Tim Murphy recruits).

Maybe someone should start a thread with the worst teams. I vote for the entire Dave Curry era. Losing to Indiana state in Indianapolis was a historic date.

I was in undergrad for engineering at the time. I had my heads pretty deep into the books, so when i did go to football games it was a fun time. Definitely went to alot of basketball games, that was a great time to go. Freshman year was the Final 4 team, Next year a close loss to North Carolina in the elite 8 nd the 5th year of engineering school was another elite 8 appearance. They just ran into a mississipi state team that caught fire.

I was also at that game in the Hoosier Dome (which is amazing because I think total attendance was about 1,000).

I was also at J.C.'s bar on campus later that night and a bunch of football players were at the table (I had a friend on the team) and they all just laughed that maybe THIS loss would finally get the coach fired.

There were a handful of former UC players playing for Indiana State and had big contributions to that game..
