Pretty inane. Said he enjoyed his time here, didn't take any shots or anything. Said he likes the idea of coaching in the ACC (I bet that lasts until about January). Hasn't hired any assistants and said that his coaches have to be attuned to him, not the other way around. Seems like the micro-managing is going to continue on in Atlanta.

Finding two four-leaf glovers side by side is good. Another school hiring Pastner is strictly the "Twilight Zone". I expect to see a post from Rod Sterling on this board any day now.

I e-mailed Pastner the day news broke out that he was going to GT. Yesterday, I received a reply saying thanks for my words, that he will miss Memphis and wishes us good luck. I think he was sincere. No matter whether one thinks he can coach, I don't see how anybody can hate the man.

I can't help having this feeling that some $$ changed hands under the table for GT to take him off our hands. Time will tell...

It did. It's called paying part of the man's contract.

I understand paying part of it if we had fired him and he found another job, but how often does a coach leave a school for another school and the school he left pays part of his new contract. Probably not very often.

I'm guessing it went down like this:

GT AD: Man, I can't find a basketball coach anywhere.
Bowen: We've got one who would probably take the job.
GT AD: Pastner??? No thanks, he's terrible
Bowen: How about this, you take him off of our hands and we will help pay for the contract for awhile.
GT AD: Hmmmm.... that is tempting, (thinking to himself now...we are getting pretty desperate for a coach and at least Pastner will come cheap and have some experience)
Bowen: Just mull it over for a while and get back to me
GT AD: Okay

And you know how it eventually played itself out.
