Transatlantic Flights from Memphis?
According to the CEO of Norweigian, it's a possibility. It shoud be noted that every city he's ever mentioned so far for US service has got it. If this did happen, I suspect they will be 1 or 2 per week on a seasonal basis. I happen to believe this ties in with Viking Cruise Line's entrance to the Mississippi River market in the future.A fellow Norweigian outfit that will market those.cruises to Europeans hot and heavy.

That would be a nice get!

Right now a round trip nonstop on Delta to pretty much anywhere in Europe 1,500 plus. To compare that to Norweigian Oakland to London r/t flight at 800 bucks.

Going by MSAs, in a 3 and half hour drive of Memphis (Nashville, Jackson, Birmingham, Huntsville, LR, ect) there are 6 million plus. The drive difference is less than an hour from BHAM to ATL or Memphis, factor in traffic and it's an easy shot to MEM from there.

Norweigian flys 787-8s and 787-9s. The 788s hold 191 passengers if half the a weekly flight are cruise passengers and other other Euros that leaves an equivalent of a Southwest 737 to fill with American tourists, around 140 folks. Could the Mid South fill a 737 worth of folks once a week for the summer at around 750 to 1,000 per person fare? You could see fares as low as 650 . That's the the big question. You'll likely see this start, if it ever does, when Viking starts their cruises and I think that's 2018. MEM would be getting close to the concourse B redo.

I started a thread on this at an aviation site and the Nashville fanboys are astonished that Memphis would get something lime this before BNA would so they crap all over the idea. Hell, it came from the damn CEO.

I wondered about this. Norweigian is flying to some Carribean locations. What makes perfect sense to me is this Europe to Mem to Cancun to Memphis to Europe. Arrive early Morning to Memphis, Memphis based crew work the Cancun flights mid morning to afternoon, euro crew takes back over for evening to morning flight back over the pon . You'd have some Euros continue on to Cancun and sell the excess to the Mid South market, thus offering two international markets with one plane from three airports.

I think the answer to that is yes. Factor in freight/cargo (the old northwest flight to amsterdam did a good chunk of business in freight, if I recall correctly)... I think it could be a good route for an airline.

nashville fan boys can kiss my .... grits.
