Something does not add up.

It has to be a donation level thing.

So we are saying that you will have to give a total of $2500 annually to TSF in order to then buy a Tiger Lane spot?

I would be curious to know how many non corporate donors we have at that level.

I'd say at 2500 we got quite a few. But I could be wrong

I should have been more clear and tried to be in my later response. How many at that level are at that level due to football?

Not many lol

I've got a list from 2001. There were about 100 individuals in the "Striped Tiger" level back then.

Virtually none. The reason that 95% (or more) of the people donate what they donate is in order to secure the BB seats they want.

Financial statements would suggest almost 80% rather than 95%, just to correct your claim.

Care to elaborate? Are you sure it isn't 80% of the donations as opposed to 80% of the actual donors?

The price of success. Tiger Lane sticker shock.
We got our email today:

April 25th, 2016

Thank you for supporting our University of Memphis football program and helping make the game-day atmosphere for our Memphis Tigers. In the past you have obtained a Tiger Lane parking pass from the City of Memphis. All Tiger Lane spots are now managed by the University of Memphis Athletics Department, and specifically the Tiger Scholarship Fund (TSF). TSF is the development (fundraising) department for the athletics department at the university, and we responsible for nearly $8 million in academic scholarships for 19 varsity sports.

To reward you for your past involvement, we are giving you the first right of refusal of your Tiger Lane parking spot for the 2016 football season. In order to keep your parking spot this year you will need to become a member of the Tiger Scholarship Fund, and you can join for as little as $25, while the cost of the Tiger Lane parking pass will be $385.

Beginning in the fall of 2018, you will be held to the same requirements as the rest of our Tiger Lane pass holders which includes being a season ticket holder and donor. Every year Tiger Lane is not guaranteed, but is requested each year by our donors. In the past two years the donation in which requests were filled has averaged $5000 or above plus the cost of the pass. The donation amount varies, and depends on the number of people who request the spots each year.

If you would like to retain your Tiger Lane parking pass for the 2016 football season, you have the option of contributing with cash, a check, or a credit card. Please make all checks for donations to the “Tiger Scholarship Fund” and checks for Tiger Lane payment to the “University of Memphis Athletics Ticket Office”. June 1st is the deadline to renew your Tiger Lane parking pass.

If you have any questions, please contact the Tiger Scholarship Fund office at 901-678-2334.

A letter will follow with payment options.

Go Tigers!

Stephen M. Green
Director of Tiger Scholarship Fund

Not trying to split hairs here but that email doesn't exactly say that spots will cost $2500-5000 for the 2018 season.

I'm sure they'll find that there isn't enough demand for that kind of donation requirement. Just like the seating, there will likely be several levels of donations that will get you a spot on Tiger Lane. My bet is that the spots closet to East Parkway will be had for as little as $25 donation. I'd be amazed if the demand is great enough for those spots to be much more than $50-75.

It doesn't dispute it either. I quoted what I was told from TSF. The numbers match up.

Reach in your pants, grab a handful, rip and split them hairs.

No, you said the spots would be $2500-5000 NOT including the donation. The email says that the spaces will be given out based on donation, which is what many people on here have said.

When TSF controls it, there's no doubt that they are going to use it to drive donations. Thank goodness for the HH spots (for now).

It sounds like the HH won't have control of any of the spots by 2018, either.

That's why I said "for now". Hopefully, they will continue to lease spaces out the HH. But, as I said above, you know what happens when they can use something to drive donations.

If I want to put on my tin foil hat, I would ask why 2018?

Does anyone know the numbers of spots held by UofM, HH and City of Memphis?

If I'm being a glass half-full person, I would say because that's when we'll start playing B12 teams for conference games.

The email definitely leaves plenty of wiggle room....the average UM donation was $5000 last year for Tiger Lane spots. Unless they had 75% of the spots, that really doesn't mean a thing in terms of how much donation will actually be required for 2018, since a chunk of people were buying HH or city of Memphis spots for significantly less.

I could see this becoming a tiered system - if you want right on Tiger Lane, you pay $5000 (or whatever price the demand drives). If you want spots further back or over, you pay less.

Rough numbers after glancing at the map. TSF - 105, HH - 180, City - 180. That's not going to be exact, but it should be in the ballpark.
