Interesting side note. At the bottom of the page, they updated the team records, adding a win for FIU and a loss for us. Wonder how long it will take to catch the error.

#2 seed Rice over #1 seed FIU ... the first upset of either C-USA tournament. Let's keep it at that.

2nd conference title of the year for Rice (following women's cross country). Hopefully we'll get #3 in a bit on the men's side (golf off to a rough start btw in their conference championship which begins today in Texarkana).

Both the men's and women's tennis teams are young with just one senior each I believe? And both have an impressive recruit for next year (women have a 5 star player from Austin and the men have a recruit from Mexico) so both teams are in good shape for the future too.

Yep. +15 (303) today ... currently in 12th place of 13, with most teams still on the course.

Great, great job by both the men and women team. I wonder if there will be a bus to any of the tournaments once they find out where they will be playing?

I have no inside information, but on general principles alone, I would bet my life savings that the answer is NO. It has been proven time and again that Rice fans are simply too few and too intractable to make organizing group travel a responsible use of effort and money.

Honestly, I believe the only way it would happen is if someone agreed right now to sponsor the cost of the bus -- which, given our track record, is a reasonable condition to require.

If it's close enough to take a bus to there is pretty much no reason that would keep me from driving myself. I feel like most Rice fans have busy schedules and like to keep their plans flexible.

Basically the Rice fan base isn't like Auburn or Alabama where you can take Tuesday-Friday off work for the iron bowl RV camping in a field until game day.

Well, the percentage of Rice fans who have flexible schedules might well be similar. It's the difference in the base (at least an order of magnitude) that is decisive.

But I do believe there is an attitudinal component: Rice fans just seem less interested in collective activity -- whether something as complex as a road trip or as simple as cheering or singing -- than fans of other schools. We can say that's because of busy work schedules (which makes us feel good), but I suspect it runs deeper than that, perhaps starting in middle school.

Well I am going to check about charting A bus and get an idea of costs.
In addition check with Rice marketing. It is pretty sorry we give such poor support to successful programs.

The new tennis facility has been packed for the matches I went to this season. Yesterday was loud and a great time. The team has credited fan support multiple times.

Please do check into it -- and thank you for doing so! But please don't blame the Rice Athletics staff for the fact that Rice fans are (1) few in number and (2) reluctant to commit to group travel. They have worked very hard on past projects and have been a pleasure to work with.
