Scenario: You Win the Lottery
Senario: You've just won $150 million in the Lottery. You decide to donate a portion to help your school in one way or another. How much would you donate and what would you fund to help your school grow.

I don't need too much to live on. I'd keep a few million to myself and my family and donate some to my church to help set up a campus ministry at GS.

The rest I'd use to fund expansions around campus. Academically, I'd fund the South Campus expansion and donate to the College of Engineering so we can be competitive with Ga Tech.

Athletically, I'd help expand Paulson Stadium with a "build it and they will come" mentality and build a new basketball arena and convert Hanner into an indoor facility. Then we could build a KSU-esque soccer arena by Eagle Creek

The rest of my money I would use to revitalize the downtown area with shops and restaurants and establish a trolley system to bring students/alums from the stadium especially on Saturdays to the new downtown area.

RE: Scenario: You Win the Lottery
I would ask our AD to convene a group of college coaches and get them to decide what could be built or renovated or improved in order to have the biggest impact on recruiting for football.

I would not be real big on wanting a seat at the administrator table or push my own pet ideas of what we need, but I wouldn't leave it to an athletics administration alone to decide what to do with the money.

I would also donate to an endowment to fund more assistantships for graduate students.

RE: Scenario: You Win the Lottery
Would keep $100M and invest it wisely and donate it later, however I would make sure to fund some FB facilities at Troy (an IPF for sure, and whatever else is needed), luckily construction of the new End-zone building will start soon, so I wouldn't have to fund this one...03-lmfao

Academically, I would partially fund a new library, and a real cool / huge student center, sth they have at Texas A&M...I would also donate millions of dollars to the Hall School of Journalism.

In total I would donate $50-60 million in the first stages and hope for some results before I would give more money to the school...

RE: Scenario: You Win the Lottery
I keep the money and invest a portion in bonds that would yield 5-7%. Then I have UL proceed with construction on the remainder of the Facilities Master Plan not yet in the works (mainly Cajun Field). UL issues bonds for the immediate construction and then I make yearly donations in the amount of the bond payment. The bonds UL issues would generally be at 3-5% interest (based on recent issuances) so the plan would be for the lottery winnings to earn interest in excess of the interest being paid (plus compound interest earned that is in excess of the interest paid out). And I'll get the yearly tax deduction for the donation of the bond payment.

Donate enough money to fire Scott Farmer. After that everything else will fall into place.

RE: Scenario: You Win the Lottery
Is $150M after taxes/cash option?

Donate a percentage annually, based on interest earnings. Maybe based on a percentage equivalent to my earnings in the workplace.

RE: Scenario: You Win the Lottery
Fund the baseball/softball locker room facility and seating expansion. Build an indoor practice facility and a parking garage (or 2) at the stadium.

I can handle just keeping enough to pay off my house (to rent out), buy a new one out on the island and save/invest a bit. My kids don't need my money. I want to use it while I'm alive. They can get what's left when we're dead.

I would give ULM athletics an upfront $5M, and place another $5M in an investment vehicle where the ULM College of Business would be able to annually fund scholarships for minority students with the income of the investment vehicle until 2030 and then the school will get the principal investment to use for whatever purpose they desire.

We would be your conference mates if I won the lottery. And we would have a new basketball coach.

RE: Scenario: You Win the Lottery
I'd donate enough for AState to build a new baseball stadium, and fund the starting of a softball program because we're going to probably have to start one anyway soon enough thanks to Title IX.

Football and Basketball would split 5 million each after that.

I'd buy Sapelo Island, give half of it to the Geechee Gullah folks and keep half for myself. I'd ban yankees.

I'd also donate some money to Southern for academics.

1. Retire. 03-cloud9

2. Payoff all debts and then always pay in cash for whatever I need (I'll still use a credit card, but no loans 05-nono )

3. Invest most and collect dividends/interest or something to that end.

4. Depending on how much I had won, yes I would give a chunk to GS. Maybe get naming rights to something, endowments, coaching funds, academic scholly or 3. Join the highest level of giving per year and get a box suite. (maybe donate enough to buy a good G5 or lower P5 home game if we haven't got that monkey off our back yet)

5. Vegas trip! 02-13-banana

New baseball stadium...start softball...finish football stadium addition. Sure would take a big check though.

Donate 10% to some in need churches & faith based charities. Set aside $5 mil to live off of. Donate $5 million to Leukemia Foundation. AtvApp I'd relocate the track then bulldoze the existing seating sections of KBS. Donate $75 mil towards building the best 30K seat stadium in the country. Donate $10 mil to endow athletic scholarships. Go to the Caribbean for a month. Play every great golf course I could get on.

No real reason to donate to athletics, can't watch the games from most tax havens. :)

RE: Scenario: You Win the Lottery
I have revised my list and broken it down with numbers I could find.

Indoor practice facility - 30m
Locker room facility - 12m (it's currently priced at 10)
Parking garage, needs to house 500 vehicles, minimum - 35m (saw one from 2009 that was 21.4m so I allotted for inflation)

That would leave me with 73m

I'll add a suite at BCS that I would rent for 30 years (we'll round that to 1m). After I'm gone I'll let a list of friends use it until it expires.

Donation to BCC of 10K a year for 10 years, 100K

Season tickets (various sports) for a time to make it 100K

Leaves a lot of wiggle room.

I estimate 500K for a beachfront property. (or maybe I'll get 2 so as to have one in the Caribbean somewhere so make it 1.5m)

I guess I can manage 2m for each kid and grandkid = 4m.

Leaves a lot of cash to use on traveling and donating to a variety of causes with money to spare.
