This team has some talent. Let's see what the coaches can do with this bunch. I believe they'll surprise some people.
17-18 wins; could go up depending on who Tubby can bring in.
Need back up PG, couple of three point shooters, and a couple of bigs.
Lotta holes to fill.
No question there are holes to fill and questions to be answered, but when I think of a "train wreck" these days, UNLV comes to mind more so than a program like Memphis, which replaced a (fill in the blank) coach with a proven winner who has some talent to work with.

Why blame anyone. Woodson just did what hundreds and hundreds of athletes have done in the past decade. Graduate early and move to another school. It has happened at almost every school in college basketball.
My main issue is that they should strictly enforce the rule which states you can only transfer IF the new school offers a area of study which your current school does not offer. When a few dozen athletes are denied eligibility due to this then you will see the process diminish.
What field of study does Butler offer that UM does not?
So, you want to force Avery Woodson to lie and say he wants a masters in Horticulture, or Biblical studies, or Indian SubContinent Economics, or some other nonsense?
If this is about "student athletes", they should be rewarded for earning a degree in 3 years. The coach can leave, hell, the school can yank their scholarship; the players should have some semblance of freedom as well if they have earned it by virtue of a degree.
STUDENT athlete. The rule was created to help the STUDENT portion of the equation. It has always been a way to help a STUDENT get access to post graduate opportunities he normally would not have.

Can yal quit arguing? Apparently my "who will blame tubby first" which was a shot at those that always seem to find the negative... And were negative about the hire... It was not intended to "stir up" trouble... Shout out to memtigbb for the neg rep points though.

Butler is going to be better than us anyway next season, and their 2 spot is wide open. I ain't mad at him.
Not to be argumentative but I'm not so sure they will be better than us next year. Maybe you will be correct, but I would at least like to play the season first.
Would you put money on me being wrong, though?

Butler probably offers dozens of degrees that Memphis doesn't, and vice versa.

Woodson chooses Butler, Butler beat Texas Tech in the tourney, Texas Tech was coached by Tubby, Tubby chooses Memphis.

Funny how many of those circles you see when you start noticing them.

I'm not gonna blame tubby for anything until the early signing period in November. I'm frankly sick of jucos and grad transfers

I find it very curious that this many kids can graduate "early". Hell, i was on the Tommy Boy plan of college... Life was good! So was the beer.

I guess so.
Almost every coach is working the grad transfer market.
Not sure the problem with Memphis was JCs or transfers either.

It's not as hard as it sounds. Especially with summer classes avaliable.

I guess I'm jaded by 7 years of clown show
I'd rather have guys learning a system long term. There's a reason guys are in Jc and transferring.

True, but you don't have to have a roster full of them either.
There's absolutely no reason to punt next year - not with Dedric and KJ on board and plenty of players available.
