Toledo had always had a hard time selling out day games at home. Many people have to work on Saturdays or have kids family functions to attend.

Saturday Night is when the magic happens in The Glass Bowl!!!!!!!

Excuses. Market the game. Go to the game. Make it attractive to go to the game

Maybe we should hand out Ohio State and Michigan sweatshirts at the door

DId someone say they were "second rate?"

I suspect that almost everyone on this board would prefer bringing a P5 school (any P5 school) to the Glass Bowl over bringing in just about any G5 school. In that regard a G5 team would seem to generally be considered a step below ideal by most compared to Purdue, Pitt, Minnesota, Colorado, Missouri, Kansas, Indiana, Arizona, Iowa State, etc. So in a sense that does kind of make them "second-rate" although I am not sure if that is by implication or by inference 03-wink

Still we have had some "attractive" G5 opponents come thru the Glass Bowl as well such as Navy, Boise and Cincinnati, Wyoming and even Fresno St. (at the time they came here they were threatening to become the every elusive "next Boise State"). UCF with Dante Culpepper or La Tech with Tim Rattay weren't bad selections at the time and even FCS Eastern Illinois with Tony Romo which on the final play was one Andy Boyd TD saving tackle away from beating that great 2000 Rocket team. I think that the upcoming BYU and Colorado State games win certainly fit in that category as well-----besides the wife is especially looking forward to the Colorado State series -----I think the last time the Rockets played at Fort Collins she was an undergrad in the CSU Marching Band.

I don't mind the G5's on the schedule at all.

It's the FCS's that I cringe about sometimes.......

It is the particular FCS team chosen or the idea of playing FCS in general---or both that you object to?

I would also prefer not to schedule FCS teams, however, that is the price to be paid if you do a one-and-done money game with a power P5 school (such as the Arkansas game) or a two-for-one deal with a P5 (although the 2 for 1's seem to have become less favored in recent years) and still want to maintain a 6 game home schedule (much less an occasional 7 game home stand which many/most P5 programs consider to be a birthright).

Rather a money game or a one for one with a top G-5 team/independent.

RE: Toledo and Colorado State Announce Home and Home Football Series
I have mixed emotions about the FCS opponents. I have little interest in the opponents, but some seasons I can see where there is some value in a warm-up game that is a sure win.

While the Arkansas win was fantastic, I just don't think we should schedule anything but 2 games deals with P5 opponents and they must make a visit to the Glass Bowl. (Is that what you call a "home and away"?)

Look--they don't want us to be able to compete with them; they want to push us into "our own" subdivision and keep us there. So, I say to hell with them. Let them fill their open dates with patsies from the P5 conferences--and there are plenty of them. Toledo gets a well paying home and away deal or it's no deal.

After the 51-0 loss to James Madison, probably not. Elon did beat Maine 27-22 last season.

FCS: the explanation given in an earlier post makes sense to me, it's trickle down economics. We give a one and done to a higher power, we need to get that back to fill the hole in the schedule by being the "higher power" to an FCS

I like the one and done's if it's a good experience for the players. They're not going to get a certain experience at Toledo, it's common sense. I like the idea they get a chance to see the inside of an SEC or a PAC 12 stadium on game day and it's sure an opportunity for our fans particularly with the events the Alum Assoc has been putting on. Players see some of the history of the college game plus we get a pay-day. Still a win-win but I'd sure like to be hitting the top of the heap of FCS.

Better of course, the one fer or the two fer one with a P5. Love getting to see these teams in the GB. Still have fear that Miami will back out, now that they're about to be relevant again.

Downwind or upwind of the fields? Could play into game-day strategy.

Just mountains to the west. Greeley is where the stench ends up. Fort Collins makes me think "beer, great equine science program and Temple Grandin".
