Shaq screwed up Shaq's renewal contract. He admits it during an interview with Penny and ESPN.

No he didn't. He got a max contract in LA. He said that he wished he would've stayed in Orlando, not that he screwed up his contract. The Orlando brass screwed the pooch there.

He could have stayed, but he didn't. Why blame someone else?. He took ownership of the decision.

Where in any of that did you hear that he f*cked up his own contract? He went to LA because it was a better deal and he was treated better; Orlando completely screwed the pooch on his renewal, as you would see if you watched the 30 for 30.

I watched it. I repeat, "He could have stayed in Orlando if he wanted to. He said he wish he had." You act like he was forced to take the MAX contract.

Again, where in any of that do you get that "he messed up his contract"? The Orlando administration admittedly mishandled the negotiations. They messed up his contract, which is why he went to LA.

I never said he claimed he "messed up" his contract.

He said he wished he had stayed in Orlando with Penny. And I said he could have easily stayed and still been a multi $$$ gazillionaire.

My mistake, I stand corrected. Poor choice of words. I meant to imply "Shaq could have easily stayed with the magic..". So in that context, he did screw up. Which is what he said and apologized to Penny.

Yes, Shaq could've stayed. He even claims that he should've, although it means giving back in his three rings he won in LA for a mere hope of earning some by staying in Orlando.

I don't think that Shaq screwed up, necessarily. He got paid, and got way more exposure (movie deals, video game deals, etc.) in LA than he ever would've received in Orlando. I don't think he cared where he played very much, but I know who did: Leonard Amato. If anyone torpedo'd the Orlando resigning (other than Orlando themselves) it's Amato. He wanted Shaq in LA from the get go.

RE: Penny Saved...
Didn't the brass in Orlando come back to Shaq's agent with a similar deal that the Lakers were offering but the damage had been done at that point. Shaq's ego had been bruised and he was done in Orlando. That and the Orlando Sentinel poll where 80% of the fans felt like Shaq was overpaid. If a man doesn't feel appreciated, he will go where he does feel appreciated.

All that aside, when Penny had injuries nag him later in Orlando and the press started being impossible there, and he left Orlando, that's when I stopped caring about the Magic. I stopped paying attention to them the second the Orlando newspapers started giving Penny a hard time and after he left. At that point I was done with caring about Orlando. I missed Shaq leaving but Penny made it still interesting until that.

They under offered him with I think a sub 90 mill deal when Zo and at least one other contemporary C were receiving 100 mill offers. That's all on Orlando.
