I never said he claimed he "messed up" his contract.

He said he wished he had stayed in Orlando with Penny. And I said he could have easily stayed and still been a multi $$$ gazillionaire.

"Shaq screwed up Shaq's renewal contract"- Midtowncowboy, no more than 30 minutes before this.

My mistake, I stand corrected. Poor choice of words. I meant to imply "Shaq could have easily stayed with the magic..". So in that context, he did screw up. Which is what he said.

Yes, Shaq could've stayed. He even claims that he should've, although it means giving back in his three rings he won in LA for a mere hope of earning some by staying in Orlando.

I don't think that Shaq screwed up, necessarily. He got paid, and got way more exposure (movie deals, video game deals, etc.) in LA than he ever would've received in Orlando. I don't think he cared where he played very much, but I know who did: Leonard Amato. If anyone torpedo'd the Orlando resigning (other than Orlando themselves) it's Amato. He wanted Shaq in LA from the get go.

But hasnt Shaq said so many contradictory things over the years?I dont know what to believe, and what's for show. A lot of what he does and says is for the cameras.

[edit: I'll put it even more strongly: there's no single statement that Shaq utters that I would trust in its own.]

Yeah, I had to sort of smirked when he claimed he should've stayed in Orlando. That's a happily ever after type of thing to say after the fact, but in reality he'd go to LA 10 out of 10 times. Shaq looks out for Shaq, but he knows what makes good TV though,

Grew up playing ball with Desmond and several others from Binghampton.

Desmond was a great kid, always had that big smile no matter what. He came literally from nothing and became a legend because of his grit and his determination to succeed.

He will live on in Binghampton and his influence will as well.

If a man doesn't feel appreciated, he will go where he does feel appreciated.

I agree, strat. It seems to me that Penny can have a better, 12-month-a-year, impact on Tigers Basketball doing exactly what he's doing now. Without the pressure of being an assistant coach, and without the possibility of getting fired by his alma mater. Everybody wins.

The Magic Moment is an ESPN 30 for 30 episode.

The "Penny Saved" that aired last night was part of an ESPN E:60 episode.

Anyone know reschedule dates for either?

So is this e60 the same as the one from a year or so ago with AAU, Dez, & Lester? Or is it a follow up to him coaching at East?

I don't know if it is the original or updated. This one goes through the '15 state championship.

Great story. A lot of guys with Penny's resume would not have done that.

Thanks Penny.
