looking at various 2017 player rankings Texas Tech was listed on a decent number of guys. For that matter so was Memphis. Will be interesting to see if Tubby and staff have better closing success than Pastner's group when it comes to highly regarded recruits, outside of hiring fathers lol

I mean - that's technically true...but I haven't heard that Kirby is staying ...

While I agree it may be a good idea for Penny to get the experience, I'm weary of him being an assistant and hearing the groans and chants for him to be coach after a couple of L's.

Tubby will probably be around 6-7 years. Just let Penny continue on his path and we'll see at the end of Tubby's tenure. Right now we just need him to continue to be an advocate for the program and Tubby supporter.

Exactly - if he wants to "cut his teeth" and be a coach in waiting - do it in 3 years or so ...maybe when Tubby is 2 years out from retirement.

Until then, do what he's doing now...great ambassador for the school/city and push players our way lol.

Assistant coach contracts usually run to June 30th. That is why Kirby is looking so hard for a job - WKU, Texas Am&M. Kirby almost certainly knows he needs a new job July 1st.

Interesting question to me is if Josh has any interest in bring Kirby to Tech, or if Kirby has any interest in going to Tech to work for Josh.

I think his point is... We hired Kirby, and had to hire keelon anyway... Thus a fail on Kirbys part...
