Im sure most have heard that ex-TU MBB coach Tubby Smith has been hired to coach the Memphis Tigers. So let me congratulate him on the new job and also his move up from being forced to coach in the semi-desert regions in the prairy of West Texas.

So does this in any way, shape or form effect us? IMO, yes, but I think it can only help. The first thing we should do is lobby the AAC to guarantee us 2 MBB games (home and away) against Memphis every year (we only played once last year - there). That should spike attendance and guarantees at least a chance at a sellout at home each year. IMO that should have been done anyway since Memphis and TU are in the western division in FB and long time traditional rivals.

This can only heat up the rivalry and ensure that Memphis and TU solidify their connections in the conference. Having Tubby at Memphis in basketball more than offsets the loss of Tulsan Justin Fuente (and Bill Blankenship) at Memphis in FB.

So in my view its a good thing! A stronger Memphis is good for the conference and especially good for this side of the league.

Memphis, SMU, Houston, Tulsa are all strong programs with good tradition. But once again (like a broken record) we need Wichita St. Hiring Tubby is another good thing about this league.

I agree......anything that strengthens the conference helps us and I always liked Tubby!!!

Overall, I think it is a good thing because it is good for our conference. I personally think Tubby will be very successful at Memphis. Tubby is still my favorite TU coach. I'm still disappointed we never found a way to get him back to Tulsa.

The bad will be if Memphis knocks us out of an NCAA bid. They almost did that this year with Pastner, so that's probably an irrelevant concern.

It will be tough to watch Tubby coaching against Tulsa!
