TUBBY'S TEAMS DEFENSIVE MINDED?
First of all, I believe Tubby will win BIG here.

Just curious, are Tubby coached teams usually very good defensively? People can criticize Coach Cal all they want, but Coach Cal has a awesome DEFENSIVE SYSTEM. This is something that Coach Pastner teams lacked playing quality competition.
Are Tubby Smith's teams generally defensive minded?

According to kenpom Memphis defense was much better last year than tech

Seems like Memphis was an anomaly for kenpom.com because our defense was terrible against many good teams

Yeah I think that is misleading in a way because Texas Tech was ranked #3 in SOS while playing against teams like Kansas, Baylor, ISU, Ok, and West Virginia. We played in a down AAC and lost against all good OOC teams

Kenpom is big time flawed and the 2016 tigers team is proof of this

The answer is a big fat YES.

Tubby is a defense first coach, much like Cal.

The one thing we KNOW will happen with this hire is the tigers will play defense on a whole new level.

If you watched our games last year and thought our defense was good then I would like to sell you many things, including this jar of purified air for $250. 03-yawn

Funny how Josh bragged about playing good D for the first 16 or so games, then poof bad D, look at the schedule and guess why.. 03-lmfao

If a player wants court time, he'll play defense to get it under Tubby.

we'll be the college version of 'grit and grind'. I moved to Kentucky shortly after he became their coach. Kentucky fans didn't care much for the departure from the fast paced pressing defense and 3 point shot style of Pitino...but they did appreciate the commitment to defense.
