No, I don't think so. I see little difference between attendance this year, while the team is struggling, and last year, when we were beating SEC teams and flirting with the Top 25. The stadium supposedly seats 2,000. Part of the problem is that (1) college baseball gets very little attention here and (2) attending Tiger baseball has yet to be perceived as "cool". It sure is a great deal, though: easy free parking, cheap admission ($5/$3 seniors), regular concession prices, good mix of music, plenty of room for tailgating (ok to drink discretely). I'll bet half of our alumni have never seen the new stadium. All I can do is be there, and I will when I can because I enjoy it (win or lose) and the team deserves support. Rebels, Razorbacks, etc support their baseball teams, I support mine. For years, I went by myself, but a few years ago, my wife went to a couple and became quickly hooked - knows the players names and everything.

Props to you Gray Avenger for supporting the baseball team.

Two of my kids play soccer, so we have been to the Rose facility for Tiger games. Lot of fun. Can't beat the price.

RE: Baseball Attendance
Not crazy points to bring up...that even fans of our athletic programs have an obligation...IF, the goal is competing at the highest levels.

Everyone understands winning brings more fans. But that is a different point. The University of Memphis is not professional, but college, that means many people attended the college, and are a part of it.

IF they do not care about athletics, that is their prerogative. But for those who do, and want us to elevate...THEN, you have a role to play. GA is often condescending, single minded self congratulatory and rude, but in this case, he is also correct.

Remember, it may have been raining, and it may have been our coach 's lame duck game, but we had less that 5K fans in the stands for our last home football game this year.

I completely agree with everything you said about the stadium, experience and value. My son is a young baseball player and we have taken in several Tigers' games over the past couple of years. Win or lose, we enjoyed it because we really enjoy baseball on so many levels. We will continue to go whenever we can. I am just saying - like with any other sporting endeavor - winners draw crowds and following winning programs then becomes "cool". Unfortunately, the Tigers have not won consistently enough to draw those crowds and build that fan base.

Great that you support the team, cool that you got your wife to come to some games, telling fans they SHOULD support baseball (or anything for that matter) is very very unlikely to work, if anything it may be counter productive, It does however give you a little rush and allow you to beat your chest, which has some value I'm sure 04-cheers

28. Baylor (12) - 2,163
31. Kansas State (8) - 2,057
53. West Virginia (4) - 1,145
55. Oklahoma (10) - 1,129
85. Kansas (9) - 673
92. Oklahoma State (8) - 579

19. East Carolina (11) - 2,744
27. Tulane (11) - 2,182
38. Central Florida (9) - 1,529
59. Houston (8) - 1,086
75. South Florida (14) - 799
100. Memphis (7) - 513
102. Connecticut (1) - 512
103. Cincinnati (5) - 509

We are surrounded by the following recruiting rivals:
Ole Miss - 7,967
Arkansas - 7,886
Mississippi State - 6,323
Vanderbilt (14) - 2,720

What do the numbers in parentheses indicate? I don't understand those. Do they have to do with attendance? Doesn't look like it.

The SEC includes several top 20 baseball teams. Vanderbilt has been #1 and #2 at the end of the year recently. Their capacity is about 3,700, which they tend to reach mainly during NCAA tournament games. As for the Big 12, only Texas Tech is near the Top 20 (which isn't about attendance). Winning is what gets the teams respect; attendance doesn't seem to have anything to do with gaining respect. Attendance might help with getting coverage on ESPN though for a team that's not a top 20 team. It certainly doesn't help to forget to attend, though, if it's within a person's ability to get to a game. It's a good idea to improve on attendance if possible.

As for our attendance, it appears that we would be able to do better than Oklahoma State and Kansas on attendance without a lot of work. Marketing and spreading interest might help, I suppose, along with some interest in the schedule, as well as a competitive team. If our team is usually making a game of it, then that would be the main thing that might help.

It's a sport with some old fashioned traditions that are interesting to follow, different from football and basketball in the whole flow of the game, possibly harder for basketball fans used to a fast pace to get into, but it's good to try something new. The old school baseball fans in the area ought to try out attending a college game.

Danged if I know - I couldn't figure them out, myself. I have been going to our baseball games since about 1975. There has never been significant correlation between attendance by our fans and the win-loss record. The crowd is always essentially composed of players relatives & girfriends, fans of the opposing team, a few students and fewer still plain fans such as myself. By the way, I definitely did not feel any "rush" when I typed that.
