Your memory is fuzzy. We actually built a HUGE lead in the first half. It looked like men against boys.

Then we came out of the locker room without any energy, just going through the motions. GT capitalized, mounted a furious comeback and stunned us.

That was the only time I ever remember something like that happening to a Calipari team, although the collapse in 2008 had some similarities.

We couldn't keep them off the glass. Thad and some other good big they have just murdered us.

If we have Thad young I think we beat Ohio state and make the championship game that year. So many what ifs

It was beginning of the change in my fandom too. I was there. Spent a bunch of money taking my family over there. After the loss i saw the players in the hotel... They didnt care! They were already out done with JP. Geron Johnson seemed to be the only one that had any fire (maybe cause he was brand new). Anyway... Somethin changed for me on that trip... I didnt renew my tickets soon after and lost my passion for it... It was a sad event.

I was told Josh got a text from one of the big boys after the Minny game. It said beat Northerm Iowa or find another way back to Memphis

Snicker

04-jawdrop awesome hearing that.

We didn't exactly blow the doors off northern Iowa. That was a close game.

Oh, if only we'd lost that and gotten rid of pastner that year

What happened was we went on a run against a crap schedule and got Nichols to sign along with Kuran Iverson and Nick King. Then we had some reactionary boosters get played by an alleged offer from USC

Smh

At least we do not have to put up with that crap anymore. JP trying to push guy's buttons failed just about every time. Cal was a master at it. I think Tubby will be a master at it as well.

Got embarrassed. We couldn't get the ball over half court and execute a play. Or was that against VCU. Or both?

VCU. Against Minnesota we just left Andre Hollins wide open the entire game

Seems I stand corrected - Tubby put a whoopin' on Josh in the 2012-2013 Battle for Atlantis.

If by whoopin you mean a game Memphis led with five minutes left, then yes, that was a whoopin. Memphis went on that season to lose all of two more games.

Surprised the feeding frenzy has continued. And before the attack, note that I also felt we needed to make a coaching change, and was glad Pastner headed to GTech.

That Minnesota game, and VCU before it, was easily the most concerned I'd been with the Pastner era to that point. We looked godawful.

That didn't start until after the 4 kings year. At least that's what I was told anyway

Take it easy on Mimi, guys. His perspective is a little abnormal. He still considers us getting our doors blown off by MSU, UCONN and UVA as "just short of elite."

Did not intend for it to be a slight against Pastner. Personal view on Paz is that I would be open to giving him more time to grow into the HC job if I saw he was still bringing in top notch recruits - he wasn't, so time to go.

Hoping Tubby puts many more whoopins on Pastner, Cal, and anyone else who stands in our way.

"There is no need to push the panic button. This is just part of the journey. We still have a chance to be scary good with all the talent we have," Memphis head coach Josh Pastner said.

Tarik Black netted 13 points, while Adonis Thomas and Shaq Goodwin added 12 apiece in defeat.

Memphis trailed the entire second half until Stephen's 3-pointer gave the Tigers a 68-67 lead with 6:18 to play, but the Gophers countered with a 16-3 run to put the game away.

Hollins hit all eight of his free throws and scored 10 points during the surge for an 84-72 Minnesota edge in the waning seconds before Chris Crawford's triple concluded the scoring.

Hollins poured in 24 of his points in the opening frame as the Gophers took a 47-42 edge into the break.

Game Notes

This was the first meeting between the teams since the 1992-93 season ... Hollins and Memphis guard Joe Jackson were teammates at White Station High School in Memphis ... Minnesota was 28-of-33 from the foul line.
