The only thing that I could readily discern from the pics, would be violation of the local leash laws . . .

Carry on . . .

Perhaps it was just a student interested in enrolling.

I'm sure it could be arranged that the alligator passes his ACT...the Cajuns know a guy.

Too soon...? 04-bow

Is it ever too soon for tasteless, banal comments?

It's a fan board.....expect the tasteless and banal to flow like a river.....

Apparently students are very familiar with this gator....they have named it "Navigator " because he has done this before.....

The gator loves freshman students. He claims they are "extra tender."

When we approached the swamp there was a sign warning people to watch for alligators. He took a picture of it and thought it was a funny joke. It isn't a joke but unfortunately we didn't see a gator... However, one night I was eating dinner on the Causeway with Atlanta Trojan and we saw a gator through the window. The funny thing is I had just told him that a gator was spotted on campus that same day. If you don't have gators where you live then you're missing out!

On a side note I love marshes and swamps. I think they are visually appealing and I like how each marsh and swamp is unique. Cypress Lake looks really nice (and looks pretty shallow; any deep parts?)... you guys have more pics of it? I like the moss hanging from the trees. Here are a few pictures of USA's swamp... Lots of lily pads in the spring/summer.
Seek and you shall receive, lol.

First, here is a cool vid: it's from the construction co that just did the new U, so the focus is more on the U than the Lake, but it gives a better feel for just how land-locked the lake (and entire main campus) is. Keep in mind that the main campus is only ~125 acres.

https://vimeo.com/117079921

No, the lake is not deep.....its deepest part is only 4 ft. And it wasn't always a lake; it used to be called Cypress Grove, and was only flooded in the early 1940's. (Contrary to the popular myth, the flooding was done to protect the trees, and not to provide a water supply for WWII.)

It actually has a pretty neat history, and this is about the best summary I've seen of it; make sure you watch the video at the end:

There are also several cool traditions involving the lake...make sure you check out the
'Lagniappe Week' and 'Ring Ceremony' sections on this link. While the the lake jump is even older than me, the ring ceremony is new, and is really awesome, IMHO:

Finally, here are a couple of my fav pix of the lake. (In other words, ones that I took recently, lol):

You should.....we always recommend it to visitors. It's especially nice if you can't do a full-fledged swamp tour: this will give you a similar experience, except it's much more convenient and free. Best to grab a PO-boy from olde Tyme grocery right outside campus and then have a picnic around the lake.

If you ever do, make sure to share take pics and share your experience.

A black bear once got loose on campus at App a few years back. I can't find any pictures of it, but I can't imagine seeing that running around!

I'd imagine you could locate it by following the trail of people running toward you. 03-lmfao

Cool, made me think of this song. I love it, have it on my tailgate music list. Been looking forward to playing it for a game with UL.

Just found this for your entertainment...
