I've never seen anyone call it the N.C.A.A. before.

NYTimes has a pretty archaic style sheet.

Amazing the New York Times writes an article about Memphis basketball and it's new coach, but The Tennessean in Nashville, the capital city does not even mention it. Not a word. Nashville as hard as it tries will never have the class of Memphis.

That's the part that stood out to me too. Where did that number come from?

It's a manufactured plastic image for a lot of plastic people.

“I wasn’t looking for a job,” he said. “But when you hear the University of Memphis Tigers, you know the tradition and you know the success they’ve had.”

A coach makes a comment like this and your zero in on some static?

Its stuff like this that count: “The sky’s the limit for this program,” Smith said at his introductory news conference on Thursday. “We want to take it to championship-caliber play.”

Huh? Somebody asked where a number came from and I offered a possible explanation. Talk to your doc about adjusting your meds.

Hey I lived there for 7 years and it was really really strange that the Tennessean rarely had anything related to Memphis and not just sports. Basically, no news about Memphis. Most folks never mentioned Memphis and think nothing about us.... Will have to say that Nashville is booming and is the "it" city.

Hilarious comment based on whether a newspaper not owned or controlled by anyone from Nashville with an even more minute readership than The Commercial Appeal. (Haven't subscribed to it in over ten years.)

You judge 'class' of an entire city on that???

Why not judge us on our weather or buildings or some other arbitrary measurement? How about our local bus service? That would make as much sense!! LOL.

I couldn't care less if The Tennesseean carried a story about my alma mater or not, because I never read it. Why should people from another city care?

I guess when the NY Times considers us in need of "revival", after two winning seasons, then the program is looked at in a positive way. That's a good thing.
