We got another one forwarded from somebody with Kentucky ties who had some good things to say about Tubby and slo some constructive criticism. HoopDreams has already alluded to the latter in a separate post.

Hey 3601. Can you clarify? I didn't read all 7 pages, so sorry if I missed this.

Are you saying Bowen wanted Coach X and Rudd said no, we are going with Tubby?
If so, who did Bowen want?

Well, if true, that won't end well for Bowen then.

Translation: Bowen won't go on his or Geoff's show therefore he's an ass. Hey he might be right. Tom has been nothing but nice to me. Even told me we were going to Birmingham way before it was announced

We hit over $12,000,000 in Basketball Revenue in 2014-2015 Link

A few years ago 2013 it was a good bit more than that.

the financials you just linked state $5.7mil in men's baskeball revenue for 2015 (with $10.3mil in expenses), down from $7.5mil revenue in 2014 (w/ $15mil in expenses). that's a signficant net loss for both years reported. see pp154-5.

season ticket revenues definitely less in 2015 than in years past, but you have to consider the per seat fees when considering basketball revenues and they have been $7 or 8 million per year recently, I would assume they are a million or so off this year so the basketball program is still well over $10,000,000

well, the source you provided says basketball revenues aren't even close to $10mil, i don't know how you think the official university financial report wouldn't account for seat fees since it is a basketball revenue. the numbers are what they are, and they show that you are grossly overestimating revenue.

TSF donations aren't broken out into donations made for seat license vs donations made for seat license purposes. There is a section for revenue under the athletic department called "general gifts" that reflects the TSF donations that are used for scholarship purposes. No TSF money is reflected under basketball revenue at Memphis, although at other schools it can be.

In reality about 80% of the $8M in general gifts are from basketball season ticket holders granting them seat license.

the post above yours points out the # is about 80%.

so us small time TSF guys don't matter?

so lets say myself and the rest of that 80% decide we will simply buy our basketball tickets from scalpers. How does the U of M pay for scholarships for football and non revenue sports at that point? I would assume the boosters would have to use their money to cover said scholarships which means the school is left with much less money to pay a coach.

See how that works.

by the way this is not directed at you Atlanta just a general statement for all the professional CPAs out there trying to explain how things work when they actually believe basketball brings in less than 10 million a year because some ledger says so.

serious question - where would scalpers get the tickets from?
