In Georgia 170-180 prospects sign FBS scholarships. Half of those are probably G5 signees.

Each year the state is deluged with schools coming in to hold camps. There are probably at least 30-50 camps.

Does it make any sense to have 1 camp for every 3-5 signees? This is completely ridiculous and shows how things have gotten out of hand. The camps are mostly a means for schools to get face time to put the hard sell on kids and often make promises they have no intention of keeping.

After reading GSU Eagles obsessive wailing, and feeling the frightened trembling in his words, at the mere thought of other programs holding camps in Georgia, for fear that his poor, little Eagles simply can't compete is an eye opener for me.

I've always thought of Ga. Southern as a program unafraid to compete, a team who will step up to the plate against anybody.

Looks like I may need to reevaluate that line of thinking.

Not afraid, but it is a bit ridiculous for there to be that many camps. I understand that it sucks being in a state that has no talent, but does that mean schools in talent rich states should give away their natural resources? Maybe thats a poor analogy, but you get the jist. Either way, I'm sure Appy and ASU will survive and continue to recruit great players.

I think it's become quite clear to all who read this board that some Ga. Southern fans have no faith in their program's ability to recruit, unless there are certain rules in place, which hinder their competition from being on a somewhat level playing field.

Yeah... "afraid" is the correct word.

We finished first in recruiting with the satellite camps allowed. Just trying to figure out why people think one camp for every three signees is needed.

Georgia is hardly the only state with this issue. Most states were at a ratio of similar or less. The idea wasn't to sign players, but for exposure to players period.

you're talking to a state fan who, ironically, would better fit the definition of "scared" in this context since the default stance has been allowing these camps and the change is to no camps.

Please link me to the post I made, indicating my displeasure at the change in stance.

I'm not worried about stAte's recruiting, with camps, or without camps. We will do just fine.

I simply commented on the apparent glee of a few Ga. Southern fans, and I guess I can add a few S. Alabama fans to the list, at limiting their recruiting competition. That indicates acknowledgment of the fact that without the stifling of competition, they fear their programs just can't match up.

Must suck to have that little faith in your program...

Ark St is touting their recent budget increase up to $30 mill which represents a $17 million per year increase from just a few years ago.

Out of $17 million increase over just a few years ago, what is the big deal about spending $100k for travel which would cover every prospect you are interested in? The only one limiting the opportunities for student athletes are the schools that don't want to pay for the travel.

You can also attend the Nike and many other private camps already in each state.

That's what we all want to do, spend more money on things we don't have to spend money on now in order to preserve the SEC's territorial imperatives. Great plan.

You realize we didn't actually add 17 million to our athletic budget...right? We just changed and tweaked the way numbers are reported to make our Athletic budget similar too what it was.

You also fail to realize that we already do most of what you are talking about. But when you recruit basically your entire recruiting class out of state, you have to get exposure in every way possible. We'll be able to recruit without the sat camps, we'll just have to be creative and send coaches on the road a lot more than we ever have previously (Our coaches spend less time on the road than most others because of promises we make about being able to spend time with their family)

The outrage is that the kids aren't getting opportunities. As the onion is peeled, the reason is all about winning, not spending money and direct access to put on the hard sales pitch full of promises that rarely intend to keep.

Fair enough. Let's just quit pretending that kids suddenly have no access and many will be harmed are a result of the camp ban. Clearly there are many, many avenues to reach every prospect.

You do understand that there are many aspects and that everything doesn't just boil down to your pet one?

Yes, people do want to win. Yes, people do want to avoid being screwed by arbitrary demographic and geographical restrictions. Yes, people do dislike the gaming of rules to maintain monopolies.

But that does not prevent those exact same people from being angry that kids are getting screwed out of opportunities in order to preserve someone's gravy train.

Your argument seems to be that if the rule is detrimental to you...then your argument about the effect on the kids is therefore invalid. That is a logical fallacy.

Straw men, straw men erawhere AGAIN. Umm I think going 14-2 in conference when there were camps means we compete just fine.

THIS GS fan, that will conveniently be glossed over, does not give to craps about camps. It does give us a slight leg up probably but what we are going to start landing five star kids now? Doubt it. We might not lose a high three star to a mid or low P5 from time to time now but other than that I dont think this will matter much for anyone. Its is not 1980 any kid can upload info and video to youtube, HUDL, Rivals, Scouts, ESPN and 24/7 in a few hours and like somebody already said there a ton of private camps.
