RE: 2016 Trap Games
Is Vanderbilt at Western Kentucky a trap game for Vanderbilt or Western Kentucky? EDIT: I should read before I comment. It does say it could be a trap for WKU, but not sure why this is listed at all. Most of these don't even seem to be trap games, but actual evenly matched teams

Yup. Vandy was a trap game for us last year and it was B.S. the way we gave up a 10 point lead with 6:00 to go. We were all in the pouring rain. Sucked so bad losing to them. We are still 3-1 in the modern era. Tony Franklin will have something for them this year. Vandy won't be ready for TF. Huge upgrade for us. A Miami WR commit, an experienced 6'5 WR, and 2 freshman all americans will help too. :-)

I think UABs white team will upset the green team in scrimmage #1 next season.

They do that crap to boost up their clicks. Its the equivalent of that one minute timer at Wendys where they ask you to pull up so they won't go over it. Total crap!

RE: 2016 Trap Games
If they haven't identified a QB in Fayettville then we have a chance. I really think Tech will matchup well defensively against passing team. If Ark decides to just run the ball it will be tough. But I could also see them trying to "break in" a new QB. If that is their approach then I like Tech. If I was a betting man I wouldn't touch his game. To many variables for both squads.

RE: 2016 Trap Games
I believe they are returning 2 on Offensive line. On defense, Ferguson (spelling?) became a beast last year... if they are inexperienced in their line, he could be able to break through. If we can pressure the QB enough and cause a little havoc, then we definitely have a shot.

Their pass defense isnt that great, if Higgins can develop into anything between Sokol and Driskel (And we know Trent Taylor's going to do his thing), then I like that matchup as well.

Agreed. Our success as a team, much like everyone else is of our veteran O line can gel and how our interior D line performs against the run. We have long, athletic CBs and some pass rushers that will be all conference caliber players. We will need those things to happen along with some semblance of a passing game. Special teams should be improved as wel.

Still have Barnes right? At least we wont have to worry about field goals.

Yes. When I speak of improvements I am referring to coverage and return teams. FG unit was good and punter was improved.

RE: 2016 Trap Games
Since we are practically re-designing our offense, I have no idea what our trap games will end up being.

As far as momentum builders go, it's gotta be Vandy second week. If we can win it, we can have some confidence going to Bowling Green. Then we have La Tech the week after and WKU 2 weeks after that. Then Mizzou. It's not gonna be an easy season for us. Marshall, WKU, and La Tech are better teams than any of our OOC match ups IMO. Getting La Tech and WKU at home is a plus but going up to Marshall is always tough. They are beasts there. Just about unbeatable there.

It's gonna be a good season. Can we just fast forward to September please?

Tony Franklin's system is simple yet effective. Tech ran what seemed like the same 8 plays but there were run/screen/deep pass options on almost all the sets. You will score fast but you will have some times were you go 3 and out so fast you forgot you had the ball. The defense will be affected by playing a lot of minutes so you will need a lot of depth. If you like 55 52 games then you are in for a treat. From his time at Tech I for one enjoyed it. It was high pace and I thought fit well with the athletes we had offensively. however, we saw This negatively affect our ability to recruit defensive players. That is probably more on Dykes than TF. I think he has a chance to really thrive at MT. If the offensive line is decent you will be dynamic, esp if Stockstill continues to progress. As far as the MT Tech matchup goes, I think we will matchup well but it is still way to early to tell and that's probably showing my bias. One thing about Franklins offense was the quickness in which the ball needed to be delivered. So that could take pass rushers out of the game.

I'm expecting a battle. Haven't done much research on 2016 Southern Miss yet (normally don't research opponents until mid-June) but y'all don't look to be losing a whole lot. Forcing turnovers is something our defense needs to do a lot more of this season. The scoop-and-score by one of our linebackers in the game at The Rock was beautiful to watch and I hope we find similar success against the USM offense this upcoming season. We will need it. Still putting the pieces together on offense.

I think the linebacker was from Mississippi too. Fitting. Martez Simpson I think.
