Clemson Ranked in top 10 % of APR for 6th straight year

Quote:According to data released Wednesday by the NCAA, Clemson’s football team is one of only three FBS programs ranked in the top 10 percent of the APR each of the last six years. Clemson is joined by ACC member Duke and Big Ten member Northwestern on the short list.

Additionally, Clemson is the only FBS program nationally to finish each of the last five seasons in the top 25 of both polls on the field, and in the top 10 percent of APR scores academically. In fact Clemson is the only FBS program to do it five total times since the data was first announced 11 years ago. Boise State and Stanford have done it four times and Wisconsin three times.

Quote:With today’s announcement, Clemson Head Coach Dabo Swinney is the only FBS coach to have five years in which his team finished in the top 25 in the nation on the field in the fall, then had a top 10 percent ranking in the APR in the spring. David Shaw has done it three times at Stanford and Chris Peterson, now of Washington, did it three times with Boise State.

In terms of total seasons with an FBS program in the top 10 percent of the APR since Swinney became a permanent head coach in 2009, David Cutcliffe of Duke and Pat Fitzgerald of Northwestern have done it seven times each. Swinney is third with six appearances since 2009. Troy Calhoun of Air Force is fourth with five, while David Shaw and David Bailiff are tied for fifth with four apiece.

Louisville Basketball posts perfect four-year APR score once again
By Mike Rutherford  @CardChronicle on Apr 13, 2016, 4:03p 4

Four University of Louisville athletic teams are among the nation's leaders within their sport in the most recent multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) data released by the NCAA.

UofL's men's basketball, women's lacrosse and men's and women's golf teams are among the top 10 percent in their respective sports in the latest APR, which measures academic eligibility, retention and graduation for student-athletes. All four sports programs have a perfect 1000 score for the most recent four-year period from 2011-15.

This is the fourth consecutive year that the Cardinals' men's basketball team has received an APR Public Recognition Award. Over the four-year period of this multiyear APR report from 2011-15, Louisville's academic success has come while the men's basketball team won a combined 123 games, the second-most in the nation over that period behind. The Cardinals won the 2013 NCAA Championship, reached the 2012 Final Four, the NCAA Sweet 16 all four years, three Elite Eights, won three conference tournament championships and claimed two league regular season titles during that stretch.

The men's basketball team produced a collective 3.26 grade point average for 2014-15, just below its record 3.40 GPA from the previous season. UofL had a collective 3.36 GPA for the most recent 2015 fall semester and 13 of 15 Cardinals earned a 3.0 or better. The men's basketball team has been around a collective 3.0 GPA for 15 consecutive semesters. Louisville placed a league-high seven individuals on the 2016 ACC All-Academic Team for the second straight year.

Last August, the men's golf team received all-academic team honors by the Golf Coaches Association of American (GCAA). The Cardinals were one of 90 Division I men's golf program recognized for their work away from the course. Louisville was one of five ACC programs to earn the distinction. Three University of Louisville men's golfers were named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars last season. Antoine LeSaux, and Robin Sciot-Siegrist and Gus Lundquist were honored for their work on the golf course and in the classroom last season.

The women's golf team achieved the highest grade-point average of all athletics teams in the most recent 2015 fall semester with a 3.524 GPA. The Cardinals boasted nine Red & Black Scholars that included three Dean's Scholars (4.0 GPA), and it was announced in the spring that seniors Laura Restrepo andKatie Mitchell earned ACC postgraduate scholarships.

Louisville women's lacrosse team has been recognized for five consecutive years by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association as an IWLCA Division I Academic Squad, which highlights teams with a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. Louisville's Cortnee Daley and Hannah Koloski were named to the All-ACC Academic Women's Lacrosse Team in 2015 and Cat Gordon was named to the IWL Association's Academic Honor Roll (3.5 GPA).

APR figures for the most-recent single-year totals from 2014-15 for all Division I sports teams will be released on April 20.

RE: Clemson Ranked in top 10 % of APR for 6th straight year
ND receives 16 NCAA APR Public Recognition Awards:

"The University of Notre Dame received 16 NCAA Academic Progress Rate public recognition awards as the NCAA today honored Division I sports teams for their latest multi-year APR scores.

Notre Dame ranked among the top two NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision institutions for the eighth consecutive year with its 16 public recognition awards. The Irish have finished first in number of awards received in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 and second in 2010, 2015 and 2016.

The NCAA announcement is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.

The 16 recognized Irish teams posted multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. In the 10th year the NCAA has presented these honors, the latest awards are based on APR numbers that represent the combination of scores from the 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years.

Here are the 16 Notre Dame programs honored this year for multi-year achievement:

Men's Sports (7): cross country, fencing, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, track and field.

Women's Sports (9): basketball, cross country, fencing, lacrosse, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, volleyball.

Here are the FBS institutions that ranked in the top 10 in 2016, in terms of programs honored:

1. Stanford (17)
2. Notre Dame (16)
3. Duke (15)
4. Minnesota (14)
5. (tie) Boston College, Northwestern (12)
7. (tie) Michigan, Rice (10)
9. Virginia (8)
10. (tie) Navy, North Carolina, Tulane (7 each)

Notre Dame's second-place finish in 2016 in terms of sports honored comes after the Irish produced the largest number of honored programs in four of the previous five years. The 16 Notre Dame programs honored rank one behind the highest figure for recognized Irish sports, matching the 17 received in 2011, 2012 and 2015."
