Right. Which tells me they are not willing to pay to play. Yet, they will still want everyone to renew and fill up the Forum next year.

The thing about Gary is i've never considered him saying any of this stuff he's saying now to be coming from a fan. I don't think he's a Tiger fan...he works here and went to school here but a true year in and year out fan...I don't think i've ever heard him say that so considering that I don't like what he's saying but its not surprising to me.

Isn't it funny, we go from thinking we had the biggest buyout in history with Pastner, to find out that even Virginia Tech has the same kind of contract with their coach? It may be more of an industry standard than we were led to believe.

If we are no longer willing to do this deal, for a proven winning head coach, someone else will step in front of us and do it.

As an aside, what would the buyout be for VT if they fired Buzz now? Larger than Pastner's?

GP made me feel a little better. I wonder if he knows what he's getting into with the recruiting in the area. Another guy that IMO is too nice for this job

I thought at Memphis we were about making the Sweet 16 every once in a while. Now, it is just about barely making the Dance and we are happy. I guess Tubby will fit right in with our new crappy expectations. He has 3 NCAA Tournament wins over the last 11 years and has not made the Sweet 16 since 2005.

Tubby inherited an 8 win team at Minnesota and won 20 games with it

Who said we were happy with "just making the tourney once in a while?" ... negative. I expect to make a Sweet 16 once in a while, maybe even once every 3-4 years, although that would take a run like we had the last 5 years of Cal. Cal had a well oiled machine and did it with recruits largely not from Memphis. Can Tubby do that with the local Memphis talent that is coming thru soon? Possibly.

Me too. Very, very disappointed if this happens.

I'll put it this way- he may turn out to be a fine hire, but he's not making myself, my family, or anyone else I've talked to go back and get our tickets. Now granted, only a couple of people probably would have made that difference, but Tubby sure as hell isn't one.
