Well... Just imagine what a Disney Movie it will make when Lebo finally makes the tournament for the first time...

After all, Compher and ECU obviously know something we all do not.

Well Compher figured out that Lebo needs a chartered private jet to go on recruiting trips. Mind you now; ECU's most talented players are from North Carolina. And that does not even address the fact that Lazy Lebo has missed or not even bothered recruiting a whole bunch of other talented North Carolina kids that are from right around ECU's campus.

Texas Tech AD Kirby Hocutt may not be upset at all if Smith leaves...as he has been paying Smith approx $2 Million per year yet Smith has won just 33% of their conf games over the last 3 years....so Smith might just jump ship before he gets fired (i.e. TT fans previously thought unless there was dramatic improvement this year he would be fired).

Damn, what a dumb post. The Tech AD was pissed.

Pissed it putting it mildly. The man was almost boiling over because Tubby went stealth on him and didn't answer his phone.

Like I said, it’s definitely a good hire and I think a great move, it’s just the way the Memphis fans were throwing the names of Bruce Pearl, Buzz Williams and Gregg Marshall around like they were the front runners the name Tubby Smith kind of came out of left field and didn’t fit the profile of the high profile, young, aggressive, “flashy” coaches all the fans were talking about.

Don’t hammer me, it was only my reaction because it’s your fan base that set that expectation.

Yep. AD even said he told Tubby he could coach there as long as he wanted, and had discussed a new long terrm contract.

Thats why many Memphis fans stated on their own board...as Tubb's was kind of the opposite of their top choices but still could end up to be a good hire.

I like that Tubby - as a brand - will increase the visibility of our basketball conference.
There are many young, EXCELLENT, coaches that wouldn't do so much.

We have quite a few vocal morons and SEC-trolls on our boards - how about yours? I am more of a football/baseball fan, but I predict that Tubby will have a high level of success at UofM. I'm willing to bet that he does too and that is why he came here.

It's not news to anyone that our first choice was Marshall, that was pretty obvious here. Of course, his profile is different than Coach Smith's, as are most active coaches' profiles. Not many active coaches share a profile like Coach Smith's, but there aren't many programs in this conference that wouldn't hire him given the resources and opportunity. There are no guarantees of success with any hire, but most believe this was a relatively good one.

As others have cautioned, it's not wise and you will be wrong as many times as correct to gauge knowledgeable, intelligent Tiger fans' opinions from comments on that board that you consider Memphis' board. That board represents knowledgeable, intelligent Memphis fans about as well as the relatively newly vocal Tulane fans on this board represent the norm for Tulane.

But to be fair, if you had a choice in the matter we would have Moe Iba coaching from his grave and Larry Porter.
