Why not an article showing the actual distribution this year.

If not, if I'm Aresco I'm talking about it all day long. Its relevant...its current. Put it on the American website...earned more NCAA revenue than any other conference in 2015. Great way to promote the brand.

The league would have to be careful how they phrase such an announcement. The revenue was "earned" mostly in years past. It's just being paid now.

I know payments for units earned are paid over the course of six years, but I don't know whether that includes the current year. If so, this year's payments reflects units earned by the AAC/old Big East from 2011-2016. In that case, there are only two more years in which the AAC can receive money for units earned under the Big East banner. If this year's payments don't include units earned in 2016, then there are three more years where the AAC will receive money for units earned under the old Big East banner.

I just think it would be tricky to use the information in that article as a promotional tool. As Final Four teams in 2013, for example, Syracuse and Louisville earned the maximum 5 units each (there are no further units awarded for appearing in or winning the NC game). Louisville also earned 5 units in 2012 for the Final Four and 3 in 2014. Those alone are good chunk of where this money comes from. Does it make sense to promote this revenue earned by former members as a sign of league strength?

Instead, I would argue the league should promote the programs and coaches it has now. UConn is still UConn and is bound to re-shaped into Sweet 16/Elite 8/Final Four status sooner than later. Memphis is hiring a great new coach. Cincinnati is more often than not a top 25 program. Larry Brown has SMU rolling. Tulsa has very much raised its game in this tougher league. Houston is getting better and better. I mean, there is plenty to promote about this league. Talking about the money received this year just invites critics to say, "Oh, well that money is from teams that aren't there anymore." I think Aresco knows better than to do that.

I think the money is relevant...as is hiring Tubby Smith away from Texas Tech.

The Big East is going to reap benefits from one of its teams winning the NC. Well, UConn did so two years prior under the American banner...there is nothing wrong in talking about it in context of its history and future. Mike Dunleavy used to coach in the NBA.

The "tic toc" folks aren't paying attention to the play in the league. When you have 4 out of 11 in the tourney and your best team was ineligible...that could have been 5 of 11. And like the Big East, there are not as many mouths to feed like the ACC, B1G and SEC have. Yes the bottom of the league needs to get better, but the fact that Tulane can get Dunleavy should say something about the league's long term prospects.
