RE: Bruce Pearl for our Coach??

Forbes is a tireless recruiter, loved by his former players, very good with media and fans, and can flat coach the game of basketball. Offer him the job at 1.75 million a year and he would walk here from his current job at ETSU. He completely turned around the job there at ETSU in one short year. He has won at every level. Many credit him with being a big part of Bruce Pearl's success while at Tennessee. When things went south there, he ended up on Greg Marshall's staff at WSU. It's no coincidence that when he was added to staff at WSU, that they all of a sudden became an even better basketball team (Two best years in programs history were the two years he was on staff). So, before we back the brinks truck for Greg Marshall, I would consider the fact that Steve Forbes is available, fits the city better, doesn't have an ego the size of Texas, and has a ton more contacts and ties to local and regional coaches and players. Greg Marshall is a GREAT coach. But, he is going to ask for the world in order to come here ($4 million a year, private planes, yada, yada, yada). Forbes on the other hand will take the job for a handshake and the opportunity to take this program back to the top.

Well said.

I agree.

A similar case can be made for Buzz Williams as well who has won in a conference going against top notch coaches and hall of famers.

1.75 million? Heck you could get him for 900K the first year, if it works out then you can bump him up accordingly. I agree he could be a good thrid or fourth option. Who knows?

Isn't it nice to know you have a guy like Forbes as a back up plan compared to what happened after our last BB coaching search when Cal left.

If Forbes is the backup plan then the plan is out-freaking-standing

When will people learn that everything is negotiable. Remember back a long time ago... yesterday, when we agreed to pay CJP 10% of what we owed him?

What's our leverage to convince Auburn to lower the buyout?

That one is simple. If you have an employee that no longer wants to be there, then you let him go. Imagine how toxic it would be to keep him bound to the contract - what do you think your results are going to be? Most likely he wouldn't have to pay any of that buyout.

We just saw this happen with Jamie Dixon, who had a buyout over $10mil.

How about turning a minor violation into a major violation by telling recruits and witnesses to lie to the NCAA.

Violated both state and federal laws by illegally wiretapping phone conversations with a recruit in an attempt to get him to say something bad about another coach. That he could use against the other coach.

he who is without sin....cast the first stone.
Your former mancrush helped Calipari poach our recruiting class. Then he threw his players and fans under the bus. Finally, a few days after insisting he was going to be here...he abandons his team and gets a new 6 year $11 million dollar deal.

I think he would kill it here. Gotta' be easier to recruit here than the mountains of VA. He also had some success at an urban university, so he's used to the environment - maybe he even misses it a little...
