RE: Fat Sam
RIP Sam.

As a TKE in 1991, Fat Sam's was fairly new. Our house was a block away. Across from the old South Highands Hospital (newly named Healthsouth). I can't tell you how many sandwiches I ate from FS, but it was a lot!

Sam came to ALL of our publicized parties and was such a joy to hang out with. He was still relatively new to Bham, and the connection was so easy. What a great guy that loved life. We embraced him as our own.

Kitchen Sink or Falafel in a pita was my usual.

Sam was an original Blazer. RIP buddy.

We have lost several Blazers over the last few months. So sad.

RE: Fat Sam
RIP Sam. My friends and I had a similar 4 (+) years of experience with him as scales described. Very fun guy, full of life, and a big time UAB supporter.

RE: Fat Sam
I read the Al.com article. Looks like the family is planning to keep Fat Sam's open?

I really hate to hear about this. I wish I was in town to make his funeral..

RE: Fat Sam
As a person that went far away to College for the first time out of my family, I first roomed in a apartment complex right accross the street from well then health south probally a parking lot know right in between the laundry mat at that time. I think I ate breakfest, lunch and supper their on a lot of days, this was the days of Carter Long a TKE man it was a great place where you could walk in and fill like tradition in the beginning from those Gene days when Robert Shannon was the best we had a Hilyer was starting a program on rocks those where the days of the start/ many fond memories speaking with Sam about his days in LA when he was a drummer in a band/ hope he plays the rest of his journey where he is loved forever. One good steak philly sandwich and the chicken was't bad either. 07-coffee3

Dragon Belly didn't exist then.

Remember that Beaureguard T Rooster and the Gay Viking were still being worked out.

At that time, Sam didn't offer sandwiches on anything other than a pita.

I used to think that it was soooo cool that Sam threw a couple extra fries on my plate because we got hammered the night before.

God Bless Sam! What a great dude.

We both solved the Middle East and worlds problems every single night we hung out.
