The bolded is a non-issue. Our big boosters have just as much money to match; at some point the market tops out, and neither Koch nor our boosters will continue to throw money out.

The bigger jobs thing is more likely of a reason to make him stay put than anything, IMO. If any of those top 10 jobs are potentially coming open in the next couple of years, why wouldn't he just stay put?

TBF they have enough money to match but not nearly as much money as the Koch Brothers. Combined they are worth 90 billion dollars.

Honestly, he may be wrong, but I would assume he does have a reason for saying it.

And speaking on Buzz Williams probably means he was told something there.

But maybe the Marshall thing is more a our side thing than his side.

If no Marshall, then Forbes. But JP isn't on the bench mucking things up so I'll be happy as a clam with whoever.

The Kochs have more money than our boosters. They will not be outbid if they care. It would be about Marshall wanting to go.

He's 53 years ago. His next job will probably be his next. Will UNC or Duke really hire a fifty-something who doesn't have a connection to their history?

Good point, Duke and UNC are likely to stay in the family.

Things that don't add up:

Why even approach if you're not going to do that?

Baffled if any of those played a part.

I wouldn't think so, but the Louisvilles & UCLA's of the world probably would.

I would assume if we don't get Marshall it's not for lack of mutual interest, but rather not quite making the deal work.

I would assume Marshall would want Memphis.
I would assume Memphis would want Marshall.

My guess is the deal just is not an easy one to make.

No, they don't.

Yes, they do. The Koch brothers are not going to pay a college basketball coach $20 million a year.

Our boosters can match anything that the Kochs would be willing to do for THIS.

Obviously when it comes to overall net worth, the Kochs have our guys beat.

GP is close with Buzz. If he's throwing Buzz's name out on his show, there's probably a reason why he's doing it (Buzz wants the publicity and wants his name being thrown around). I believe GP when he says that Gregg Marshall isn't in play.

He does not have to, the odds are way in his favor. It is kind of like me going to the casino and declaring "I am not going to hit a jackpot tonight". Odds are against it but predicting it does not make me a fortune teller. However, on the chance that I do hit the jackpot, who cares that I was wrong?

I like the analogy.

Pitino probably isn't going anywhere for several years. If he was going to be shown the door, it was going to be this year. If anything, I'd think he'd pull a Bobby Knight with his son if he gets fired at Minnesota. Steve Alford probably has a couple years before he's taken out.

Something to think about, Memphis has a history now of paying big bucks to coaches for over a decade.

If Marshall leaves WSU, do the Koch brothers and other supporters want to bid high enough so from that point forward any coach considdering WSU will expect that kind of money.
