Bowl Moratorium
NCAA has put a 3 year moratorium on new bowl games. Three cities were proposing bowl games, Austin Tex, Myrttle Beach and Charleston SC. Those are really good places to go to, especially Charleston.

RE: Bowl Moratorium
That means there are still 40 bowl games, so 80 teams needed every year out of 130 in FBS. Unless some drop out, a real possibility of losing teams bowling every year. The argument for curtailing more bowls would have more credence if all the losing teams in bowl games last year lost but all of them won (Minny, Nebraska, SJST).

A few big time programs with 5-7 records did not bowl including Texas, Kentucky, Missouri and Illinois. My money is on more bowl games after the 3 year moratorium is lifted. Don't count on the NCAA stooping to whatever level it has to to make more $ off of college students

Bowl games must be making money for somebody. Maybe we can have a Cell bowl game involving the MAC and Northwestern.

Yes, bowl games aren't as meaningful as they once were, but I don't really get why folks are so upset about them?

And how is it taking advantage of the students? To give them a free trip to usually somewhere fairly cool, get some free stuff, and get to play another game.

If you want to label the top 20 bowls something specific, sure, go ahead. But I don't know why we're wanting to stop more games from happening.

Why? I don't understand why people complain about too many bowl game. If you're not interested in the game don't watch. The more football, the better.

RE: Bowl Moratorium
i clicked on this thread hoping there was a moratorium on NIU going to bowl games. At least until Rod figures out how to win 'em.

RE: Bowl Moratorium
i agree with MD. the quality of the football in having so many bowl games is generally poor. bowl season is watered down, and the general public simply does not care anymore

OK, then don't watch. And if enough people don't watch, they'll reduce the number.

They keep getting created because there's enough sponsorship/viewers to make it worth while, and it's a nice thing for the kids. Why should the NCAA or anyone else limit that?

I don't care if a team goes 0-12, if someone is willing to watch their 13th game and can pay for it, let them play. Why should there be any specific restriction on the total #?

Rules to ensure good teams don't get passed up by a 2-10 Notre Dame team (we can hope)? OK, I get that, ensure the really good teams get a spot. But outside of that, I don't get the whining about it. No one is forcing you to turn on ESPN U on Dec. 28 at 10 AM.

Universities are on the hook for a lot of money. More Universities should turn them down if they lose a million or more.

Bowl Moratorium
It really is dumb when people complain about too many bowl games. Don't watch them if you don't like the matchup. I don't watch the NBA or Soccer because they both are boring for me. I don't tell people to have the NBA disbanded. Idiots like Boers and Berstein complain about to many bowls.
