So the FBI can't unlock iPhones at will. They are still asking Apple to do it for them.

But more disturbing is that this little dustup has motivated the regressive statist to consider a bill limiting what encryption should be available to the people.

http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/fbi-wants-apple...se-1553974

Both Feinstein and Burr are said to believe that Apple should not be told how the FBI accessed the San Bernardino killer's iPhone. Feinstein told the National Journal: "I don't believe the government has any obligation to Apple. No company or individual is above the law, and I'm dismayed that anyone would refuse to help the government in a major terrorism investigation."

The 4th amendment says the government cant search you without a warrant ordered by a judge. It does not say you can never be searched.

The problem with technology though is if they have all the secrets for hardware/software, they can invade anyone's privacy at any time without us knowing. It's a different world than it was in the 18th century. Privacy then meant in your own home. Now we carry most of the details of our lives and actions in our pockets.

Translation? What does "fonzies" mean? "fun?"

ETA: I'm kind of serious. I've had it with "progress."

Whoever said we have a right to privacy?

Oh yeah, it was the Supreme Court in Roe v Wade.

just because they cracked THIS phone doesn't mean they can crack ANY phone. Maybe they just got lucky? And yes, the right to privacy ends when you commit a felony and there is reasonable suspicion that information exists.

Yeah, that's a bit of a stretch I think. Now I didn't follow the apple fbi case closely at all, by I don't think the government finding a work around to hack a phone belonging to a terrorist is a big deal.

Finding their own work around is fine. Demanding a company give them a backdoor into the technology is not because that is just giving them the keys to get into any phone (built on that platform).

The government snoops on private law-abiding citizens enough, we don't need to make it even easier for them.

Just my opinion.

1984 is overrated....JMO

at some point one has to realize the cost of incarcerating for stupid stuff is just stupid stuff.....the end result is it costs too much....having said that, the gubberment leadershite hasn't quite figured that out yet....

my view is that using a personal phone for illegal thingys is fk'n retarded.....

most that play the 'crime game' are smarter than that....they call 'em burners

technology can always be conquered and used by those that are evil.....it's only a matter of time and how/who they pay to make it happen....

I predict cash becomes a thing of the past in less than twenty years.....my guess is 100% monetary tracking is coming very soon....

edit: the bitcoin thingy is another one that has 'em by the balls...

So, the FBI serves a warrant to search your house or business. Do you unlock the doors for them or make them break the doors down?

Also, did the phone have to be directly hooked up to another computer for them to be able to get in, or was it done wirelessly?

They don't have to incarcerate you. They just have to make whatever you are doing a felony. Like, let's make owning an AR15 a felony, and anyone who wants to fight that using the second amendment as a defense will lose in the courts. Then they will be a felon. They can not own ANY firearms, NOR CAN THEY VOTE.....

All of you who think I'm a kook, don't laugh. It is only a matter of time before the ruling class find enough activities to call crimes to eradicate the voting public's voting rights.... like, for instance, if you deny that global warming exists.

How dare you have a divergent opinion!
