The shame of the Boston Globe
They have abdicated their journalistic principles and become just another shell.

Is this what journalism has become?

Name one paper that hasn't abandoned its journalistic principles.

Name one media outlet period.

pdf of the Boston Globe front page

Some highlights of the 'look at Trump's first month as president'....

The stock market basically lost half its value in a month.
Kid Rock is the ambassador to Japan
Trump named his new shar-pei dog Madame Peng (after the Chinese First Lady, which offended her)
and my personal favorite
"A Trumping To Remember", President Trump's new romance novel was pulled from the bookshelves after it was revealed a portion of the novel was taken from a May, 1986 edition of Penthouse Magazine.

We knew it was coming.

The BBC made a full mockumentary showing the collapse of society if UKIP won the election and that sort of thing will begin happening here.

PBS, NPR ... for starters. Their journalistic principles are solid. There are others.

I don't think the sky is falling. The model has changed, and with advent of social media and infotainment/news it's more about click bait now than anything else, but ...

I thought about the papers I worked for, unfortunately the publishers signed the checks and made the rules, and that meant that certain things were given more priority than certain other things. And, as the market got rougher, those priorities shifted even further towards appeasing what few advertisers remained. It was never anything blatant and we were never dishonest and never played favorites, but there were times discussions were held over our approaches to certain stories, and some things got less attention than they deserved. I saw this in our competitors as well. The bean counters didn't want to piss off the 'business community' when it could be avoided.

I spent four years as the editor of a twice-weekly paper in a market where real estate was the biggest game in town, trying my best to do more with less and less as the recession got worse and the housing market boom went bust. After four years, I told my publisher if I preached term limits (which I believe in) then I should practice what I preached and step down. I went to being a staff writer and my life was much easier.

If you want to blame journalists for abandoning journalistic principles, fine, but the business side of 'for profit' media is also guilty for some of the excesses we see in media today. And Fox News is guiltier than the rest.

Roger Ailes started this idiotic charade in which a network claiming to be a 'news channel' offers opinion as straightforward reporting of truth. It has basically converted a generation of folks into clowns.

PBS and NPR news reporting is far from unbiased. Good grief.
Just because their name are public and national doesn't mean they aren't run by leftists with bias.

Yes.

Which probably has something to do with the fact that they are losing their a**es and shutting down right and left. Not the only reason, but a reason.

The only reason we still subscribe is that we need our daily fix on crossword puzzles and comics. Man, those are as bad as crack…so I hear.

Exactly...

I listen to NPR a lot, but to call it solid journalistic principles is a stretch. They have some nice stories to hear about, but they pitch a heavy leftish agenda.

Especially NPR. NPR is government subsidized radio for rich liberal Democrats.
