The small AAC current TV deal all goes back to the bonehead decision by the old fully intact Big East to decline the massive TV deal that ESPN offered us a few years back in hopes of getting more money from them. ESPN never countered with a better offer and the Big East was then stuck with what they had.

This led to Syracuse and Pitt departing to the ACC for more money, but the funny part is that Pitt let the movement within the Big East to decline the large ESPN TV deal. Some journalists say that ESPN then told the ACC to take two schools from the Big East to weaken it so that they would have grounds to pay the Big East virtually nothing. That appeared to work as ESPN then had grounds to offer mere peanuts once the basketball schools split because the money was horrible.

ESPN wanted the ACC to take Syracuse and UConn at that time, but BC led the movement to block UConn. So, Pitt (the vocal party who convinced the Big East to turn down that giant TV deal) got the invite instead of UConn. Go figure.

I don't think that our current money problem is because our school brands aren't worth more money. It is because ESPN made us pay for our arrogance. Let's hope that they are over their punishment of us. The AAC deserves more money than it gets because the basketball and football product just keeps getting better.

Remember I thought the CUSA not getting paid was a bad sign for y'all? Well the Big Ten contract is a much better indicator.

Everybody's going to keep getting paid, at least for now.

we will all continue to get paid as the years go by but at a much lower rate than in the past. Only two or three leagues have that much to offer in a saturated climate.

If anything the Big leaving will allow the American even more prime time spots on the ESPN networks...Plus ESPN would have to talk us up since they have no other options, when you have to much inventory you can talk smack if you want. When you lose inventory the stuff you have is more valuable to you.

There is some truth to this.
