Rice vs. UAB (Saturday Game 2)
Going against the Blazer's usual Friday night starter today...

Ryan Ruggles (So, LHP): 7 starts, 3-2, 41.0 IP, 2.20 ERA, .162 BAA, 22 BBs, 5 HBP, 22 Ks

...slow tossing left-hander with excellent ERA and BAA stats, but has struggled with his control on occassion. And they have their three best bullpen arms rested and ready to go (unlike us).

We need Blake to continue his strong pitching and be able to go deep into the game, and we need the offense to again put 5+ runs on the board. Go Owls!

Weather.com predicts winds during today's game will be blowing in from left field/center (SE/SSE) at 14 miles per hour.

Hope we don't try to launch easily caught fly balls into such a breeze.

Partly cloudy and breezy at The Reck right now. No precipitation yet.

Once this sprinkle passes, it should be clear the rest of the game.

Yikes! Lest anyone forget, here's a screenshot someone took of that travesty:

The red circle shows where the pitch was caught.

(Taken from this June 25, 2007, post. The entire multi-day thread is discouraging to read, too.)

Buck has not only been a D-1 ump for 21 years, he's been an MLB umpire evaluator for 11, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Maybe someone can show him this photo and ask how he would evaluate the umpire that called it a strike.

Clouds have blown North. Plenty of sun now. If you're coming bring the sun block.

That reminds me of this "interesting" strike zone...for both sides:

1997 NLCS Eric Gregg "Strike Zone"

and how Greg Maddux also benefited:

Back to the game...1-0 UAB in T2. Single, double, FC scored the run although the Owls should have had a DP after the leadoff single.

Still 0-1 going to 3rd. Owls have a single in each inning, but that's it.

Blake has gone 8 up, 8 down since the double inside the 3rd base bag in the first. Need to get him some runs.

Lead off single by DiCaprio. He's 2-2. Dane flys out to CF. Ford walks. Dayne pops up. Connor flys out to left. 0-1 going to 5.
